No more rolling admission at Drexel

I just called and Drexel stopped doing rolling admission this year. The deadline is Feb 1 '12.

So is there any advantage to applying early if they aren't planning to notify people earlier like they have in the past? My concern is that RD applications are mixed in with the ED ones and just get put aside.

Their website says: Admission Decisions
Drexel will be reviewing freshman applications continuously beginning in the fall with admission decisions being released throughout the fall and spring.

That looks like rolling admissions to me, unless I misunderstand the term. Or they have not updated their website.

If you apply through the common application, in the future plans section the only option for decision is “rolling admission 02/01/12”

I know it does say that they review in the fall and spring on their website and I see they encourage students to fill in apps during a school visit but it isn’t clear then when they notify you.

I just got an Email from Drexel that says they’re starting to review applications at the end of this week.

Good to know! It does still say RA on the common ap so clearly no one knows different.

My daughter applied to Drexel last year, and was notified on October 26 that she was accepted. She saw it on her portal when she was confirming that they had all of the information from her high school. The official email and hardcopy in the mail came several weeks later.

gsmomma, did she apply using the common ap or through Drexel itself? My son is going to apply via the Common ap. Do you know if all applicants can check status through Drexel’s portal?

I applied through the Common App, and I got an Email with a Discover Drexel Portal ID and PIN. (Drexel’s actually the only school that’s sent me something like that. Do I just wait to hear from the others by postal mail?)

gsmomma, when did she apply? I just sent my application in on Sunday. Now I’m just waiting for them to get my SAT scores and hs transcript. It says it might take up to 3 weeks for them to process the information, so my hopes aren’t very high, but it would be fantastic to hear from them by Thanksgiving.

Thanks cinereous! My son is almost ready to send in his Common ap and he submitted his request at school for the GC, transcript etc to be sent which takes 2 wks to process.

Unfortunately our school waits until the teacher recs are ready (which they are not yet) before they sent the packet. So this all is helpful to get some sense of the timing of everything. Yes it would be great to know before Thanksgiving.

I would imagine you could call or email the admissions dept to see how other schools do it.

According to my file, she sent it on 10/10/2010 via the VIP application. Drexel had all of her scores and recommendations by 10/16/10, and she found out her acceptance on 10/26/10.
Her merit scholarship was also listed on the portal on 10/26.

More good info to know. Thanks gsmomma.

When did she send in her application?

I sent in my common app yesterday but I did not receive an email with the Drexel Pin and ID.
Should I be worried?

Don’t worry. It took a few days for my son to be emailed.

So, just to clarify this in my mind: Is there rolling admission for Westphal? We did NOT apply Early Action, but all forms are in and the portal says “under consideration”. However, I have heard both: rolling and not for Westphal. does anyone know fro sure? Also, we did the VIP application.

Drexel is definitely rolling. Just got this email:

"Your application is complete! All materials have been forwarded to our review committee.

Drexel is on a rolling admission schedule, so once a decision has been made you will receive notification. If additional materials are required before an admission decision can be rendered, we will contact you. In the meantime, feel free to log in to the portal to check for updates."

I think for Westphal its rolling, but there is an earlier admission deadline. It’s clear on the website, but you have to check. Also, call them on Monday. They’re very helpful.

Where did people get VIP applications from?

I just got notified of my acceptance online yesterday!

I applied with the VIP application, although I don’t think that is too different than Drexel’s normal online app.

I applied mid-September

So I think for Westphal Early Action the deadline is Nov 15th. So I am assuming that their rolling admissions for regular applicants will start after they review all of the Early Action applications. So I am hoping my son (VIP application, regular decision) will hear something shortly after the 15th!

Everyone who got their results already - did you apply Early action or just normal rolling?
