I am registering for the June SAT IIs, and noticed that the writing test is no longer offered. Is it no longer required, with the writing portion of the SAT in its place? Do I still need to select 3 SAT II exams?

From what I've heard, you only need to do two SAT2s. But it would be better to check with the colleges themselves, I guess.

It depends on the school. We were at a meeting and Georgetown said they require 3, Harvard, Duke & Penn only required two. FWIW, Georgetown said they are totally ignoring the writing section of the new SAT.

Any ideas about Princeton and Yale?

I was told at Penn that they are still requiring three!

We were at a info session last Sunday with the regional admissions coordinators and she absolutely said two. My daughter is the one who asked the question and Penn is her first choice so we payed close attention. Of course, now I'm going to want to double check, so if you find further info, please post it!

audiophile- I agree that Penn is not being clear or consistent about this (S's first choice as well). I keep checking the website (Admissions- Testing) and it still says they will decide shortly on the number of SAT IIs). Would be nice to know! Your info session is more recent than the one we attended in March, so it gives me hope.

Slightly off topic, but all the above schools except Harvard said they would combine highest scores from separate sittings of old & new SAT.

I expect they'll follow Havard's lead, but don't take my word on that!

Johns Hopkins still requires 3
