@potcfan- How is it? Do you wish that you had lived off-campus? I’m looking at some of their rules in the handbook, and depending upon how strict they are with those rules, it sounds a tad restrictive. Really, I’d only be staying there to get to know people and for the convenience. Do you think it was worth it for you? My concern is that, if I stay there for one year and hate it, that’s half of my time at the school gone. What’s your take?

Well there are more rules if you live on campus, but generally in the apartments you can still get away with quite a bit as long as you’re not stupid. It easy to sneak in alcohol, but just make sure you don’t get too loud cause the noise is what will attract the ca’s to your apartment and then you’ll get a violation. Also, I don’t know what the rules are in cerro, but in poly canyon, if you’re entire apartment is over 21 you can have alcohol. Basically just don’t be stupid. Don’t leave stuff that you’re not supposed to have out in the open and you should be fine.

@Adesigner, CV IS FOR FRESHMAN. i lived there last year (09-10). it’s almost all freshmen now. before pcv was built, it was for continuing students.

@2leashes, for pcv, your daughter can chose the apartment she lives in. last year, it was a lottery system for who got to register first, and on your assigned day, you went into the housing application and could search open apartments by building and floor. you even assign people to bedrooms, so your daughter will know during the summer exactly what apartment and bedroom she’ll be in for the fall.

does cerro vista have a lottery system? i’m going to be an incoming transfer student.

I spoke with the transfer center, and they said that we will be placed in CV, and roomed with other transfers. Since all transfers will be placed into CV (PCV is not an option), I would assume that there will probably be a whole building for us… maybe. I put down my deposit, but I’m not sure that it’s what I want. I’ll be visiting the campus to talk to housing people as well as (hopefully) someone from the engineering department. Not sure if I’ll be able to make that last one happen, though.

Sorry, what is PCV?

For the apts, do you find roomates on your own?

PCV = Poly Canyon Village.
CV = Cerro Vista

They are the two apartment complexes on the Cal Poly campus.

And no. They assign your roommates, unless you know with whom you would like to stay. In that case, you put their housing ID on your housing form, and you should get roomed together.

@hootenany i heard somewhere that last yr they placed transfers in the back buildings in cerro but since this year they are focusing on cerro as mainly transfer students, i’m wondering if we get more choices than just the back buildings…

The apt unit, do the 4 roommates share the cleaning in kitchen, living room and bathrooms?

A weekly house cleaning service is provided and included with the cost of housing. They clean your bathroom, kitchen counters, and floors. But you’re responsible for keeping your stuff clean the rest of the time (like wiping off the stove if you spill something, etc). They also provide you with toilet paper and kitchen sponges.

Also, there’s not really a difference between the back and front buildings of cerro. The back buildings are a bit higher on the hill, but the distance from campus is pretty much the same.

I just filled out my housing app for cerro vista, and I’m trying to make my payment, but I’m getting this message.

“This plan will divide your Housing balance into nine installments.
The total budget amount for this installment plan is $0.00.
A budget amount for this plan has not yet been provided from the school’s billing system. Please try to enroll again later.”

Did you guys have to wait for the application to process before being able to pay the deposit to secure housing?
Just wondering what my next action should be… i’ll end up calling Cal Poly later today, but I thought I’d ask you guys anyway.

@Matttt I was able to make a payment. The initial payment is $2125. Cerro Vista is also part of 3 choices.

what do you mean part of 3 choices?

What? I didn’t have three choices. Also, my first housing payment was $1125.
I had three places where I could put in a desired roommate’s housing ID number, but that was really my only choice on my app.

Oh, I bet 7A457A45 is a freshman. They get dorm options. Also, they have to buy a meal plan, which would explain why he/she had to pay more than I did.

I got it all fixed up, the housing office said there was a good number of transfers who weren’t able to make their payment. If anyone has this problem just give housing a call.

and yeah I had a 1125 payment as well.

I’ll see ya guys around cerro vista next fall.

yea, I am freshman.
