No picture with cap and gown?!

Hi
I have just graduated high school. But I have no PERSONAL picture with cap and gown. Particularly not with my mom, who would have liked one. I just didn’t think of it at the time and now REALLY, REALLY regret it! My mom would have liked to have a picture too. I could ask the school if I could borrow a cap and gown, but that seems stupid and it’s not the same!

Just borrow the cap and gown, and get that picture. It’s not silly at all.

Or ask around…any chance anyone else got a picture of you two?

As a parent Iooking back on my HS graduation, I will always regret not getting a picture with my family at the event. I was too busy rushing out the door to head to my graduation trip to the beach instead. It was selfish of me, and sure wish I had a chance for a do-over.

Make the effort to borrow the cap and gown. It doesn’t matter that it is after the fact. Any embarrassment over having to contact the school will fade with time. Regret will only grow stronger.

Thank you… I do feel bad anyway that I did not do it immediately after the ceremony.

My daughter was supposed to bring a change of clothes to graduation since the kids were heading out for Project Graduation shortly after the ceremony. Well, she remembered a shirt but forgot pants! ??? She asked her dad to run home (25-minute round trip) to get her pants. By the time he got back, she was frantic. We grabbed a couple of quick photos with the family, then she announced, “I don’t have time to change! Bye!” Sigh.

Definitely ask if you could borrow a cap and gown. The worst thing that could happen is that they say no, and then you really haven’t lost anything at this point.

Yes, but it is not really the same, and asking seems a bit embarrassing. But I will do it, anyway.

We cannot keep the cap and gown.

It’s not embarrassing. Just ask.

If you can’t get the cap and gown. Put on a nice shirt, with tie…and hold your open diploma with your mom.

Get that picture.

Call up the photo studio at the local mall. They probably have a cap and gown. You can just go there and have the photo made.

When I graduated from HS my mom finished her associates degree and we have a great picture of both us with our cap and gown and degrees after the fact.

Thanks for your answer. But it’s still not the same, for me :frowning: I have to ask the school, dress up, etc. I’ll see…

You can purchase a cap and gown online if you don’t want to ask your school. I found a number of them on eBay

Thank you.

Bottom line is take the picture. Get it framed for your mom. How you are dressed is less important than the actual meaning of the photo.

Years from now you will be able to look at the photo without regretting you didn’t take it sooner. So just pretend you are already your older, more mature and mellow self and TAKE THE PICTURE

My daughter just graduated from college, and after she returned home the following week, we had her pose for some more pictures with her cap and gown and diploma in our back yard. We got some pictures at the graduation, but we were rushed, and decided we wanted a few more. By all means, borrow the cap and gown and snap some more photos, everyone will be less rushed and more relaxed:)

Especially for high school graduations a local studio usually has a cap and gown available. Ask the school. Or look on-line as suggested (they’re all pretty generic).
Just go do it. Not stupid at all and nobody will blink an eye at your request. In fact get your friends to come over and take pix with you–those are always the most memorable.

Here’s another suggestion: borrow a cap and gown, and have a nice posed picture taken. Then go around town and have a bunch of snapshots of yourself doing things in the cap and gown: standing in line at McDonalds, pumping gas, mowing the lawn, etc. These will give you and your family a big laugh in future years.

We did this! And when I see the pictures, it makes me smile because my son was so thoughtful as to borrow a gown and go through all the photo-taking, just so I could have a picture. It is not as uncommon as you think.
