DD has just informed us that she dosen't want to take the SAT this Saturday (for her third attempt) since she hasn't had any time to prepare. She wants to blow it off and just go with her old score of 2010 (since she had studied for that exam). I was under the impression that a score decrease could not hurt her so she might as well "give it a shot anyway". Should I encourage her to try the test anyway? She is only sending the scores to colleges if she improves on M or CR (she would rush them to her ED school). I know that it will be on her midyear transcripts but if we don't "officially send" the scores, her ED school won't know about them (if she goes down instead of up) before the ED decision in December. Advice please?

id take a practice test, see if im shaky and make a decision

depends on the ED school....if her current Math & Verbal are in the top quartile of the ED school, she's probably ok. Even if in top 50%. But, if either score is below the 50th percentile, then a higher score would definitely improve her chances. Otherwise, an adcom is gonna have to explain to his/her committee why they should admit someone who will bring down their average stats.

Another thought....higher scores puts one in better contention for merit money.

I concur with rfc -- pickup the CB SAT book and take a short practice test -- focus on verbal (CR) and math; she can virtually ignore the Writing since most schools aren't gonna do much with it.

Is it really necessary to rush Oct. SAT scores to an ED school? I may have interpreted your post incorrectly, but I'm under the impression that your D will be rushing them. If the deadline is Nov. 1st or later, is it okay to send them without rushing?

The middle 50%tile of admitted students had 1300-1460 at DD's ED school. DD's math + Cr. Reading = 1330. She really should have 1380 to be "competitive".
Krabble88- she would need to rush scores since she has not listed them on her Admissions ticket to SAT. She didn't want to list the school in case the scores went lower.

Does rushing scores only send the test scores from one sitting or all previous tests as well?

Every time you send scores, all previous scores will be on the report.

Well all, it my question is a moot point since DD just informed me that she is NOT going to take the test on Saturday...she does not feel she will go up and thinks that it is a waste of her valuable time. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them take the SAT!
