I have an unusual, multicultural background. My ECs aren’t weak, but not strong either.

Should I even bother applying?

Yes. No question. If you are interested in UChicago. Your scores and grades are excellent, and your international background by itself makes you an interesting candidate. Your essays will be your chance to explain how you’ll fit in. Good luck to you.

You already posted this samequestion earlier this week. Don’t create duplicate threads.

@kaukauna thanks for your feedback!

what is U Chicago mainly looking for in essays? Intellect and writing skills?

Leonardo, Yes writing skills and intellect are good. But it is as much, maybe more, that you are interested in what the average UChicago student is. I suppose some of these things are intellectually curious, comfortable with argument and discussion, finding joy from intellectual pursuits, a love of learning, and seeing UChicago as a place where you can deeply experience these things. The other thing I and others have said about essays is to not try to write what you think they want to hear. Listen to your head and heart. Do you really want what UChicago has to offer? If yes, then just write it out in the essay. Again, good luck to you.

I think you should. I mean how many students actually have extremely out-of-this world ECs? Not many. Many “normal” students with 32+ACT and 2100+ SAT with “normal” ECs get in. Don’t let this site intimidate you.

@kaukauna
thank you very much! Vey useful insights!

@waddups thank you! Valid point :slight_smile:
