No thanks, Harvard

hopkinslax: Is he or she going to Drexel's BA/MD program?

nope (character limit... dadedadedae...)

"I kind of liked the idea from another thread (from mini?) to auction off the top 5% of seats to the highest bidder. Some will be happy to do this and thus subsidize other lower income students."

This already happens. How do you think Dubya got into Yale?

^good point...

go to google and look for "failure"...

that was already pointed out a few days ago on this thread^

I turned down Cornell, Amherst, Northwestern(Medill), UF, UNC Honors, and Emory for Duke.

Duke has much better pre law advisement, I won't be specialized, and I like being a scholar there.

None of those places are significantly (or even remotely) more prestigious than Duke; Emory and UF are significantly lower, too. I don't think this thread was intended for people to just list everywhere they were accepted, but rather, list the schools they chose over more prestigious schools.

lol. I think you sort of missed the point of the thread puzzle

"None of those places are significantly (or even remotely) more prestigious than Duke; Emory and UF are significantly lower, too"

Ouch Cornell!

lol jk

i beg to differ about cornell and amherst

That depends on how you define "prestige." I'm going to make an assumption here, but I think more "average" americans know the name "Duke" than "Cornell" or "Amherst"...In fact, I can almost safely say that no one in my grade knows the former two, but most know about Duke. Although, I would pick Amherst and Cornell over Duke because I believe them to be better schools.

Jeez, why are people so nasty on this site sometimes?

Lord.

lol, no one was being nasty, just pointing out that Duke falls in the 'prestigious' category

anyways, congrats puzzle!

people that matter knows about amherst... people that dont matter dont know about it... so why does it matter? does it matter if the janitor has never heard of williams but has heard of harvard but u picked williams over harvard but wharton grad school has heard of williams and dont really care if u went to williams or harvard? hehe.. that sounds kinda wordy...

anyways... cornell is definitely prestigous... it IS an ivy after all.. 100 years of history has to mean something... i mean.. u can try to say cornell is more prestigous than washu and make an argumetn out of that, but saying cornell is not that prestigous is kinda hard to argue

I don't think I was being nasty.

And I never said that Cornell wasn't prestigious; it is prestigious, and an excellent school. However, there are a handful of "more prestigious" non-Ivy schools, and I'd say that Duke is one of them.

no one was being nasty...and xokandykyssesox...i have no idea what you said, lol, but that's ok. I never said Cornell isn't prestigous; just that Duke, IMO, is more prestigous. Anyways, I'm out--

Not one person was acting in a nasty manner. I just think Blackbelt said what he/she felt with all the aplomb that was needed.

Cheers.

I just think some of us are becoming irritated with people posting that they turned down Harvard for Yale or Columbia for Penn or UVA for UNC. Turning down Harvard for UNC is what this thread was made for.
