No thanks, Harvard

There would be someone nailed to the wall if I spent 6 hours in a room and my scores were cancelled.

it was awful... we didnt start until 9 something and we just sat around figgeting... i was sitting 10 inches away from my friend and there was another person sitting right across from me; about 80 people all in the cafeteria and ONE proctor. then during break some people left and didnt come back because they were fed up with it. the proctor was permanently banned from adm tests

then a week later i found out from the newspaper it was cancelled and the retake was 3 weeks after the original date.

i think it was this post... i was kinda shocked for a second when i read SAT only cuz i never saw those numbers anywhere b4, but the rest of it looks really impressive so the person definitely deserves it: presidents and all the other ECs and such.

I chose NYU scholars Program and Full Scholarship over Cooper Union
(for art)

Yea. Not many people know much about American University but it has the #5 Grad program for international relations I believe. It also has pretty nice undergrad communications and business programs. I'm going in as a visual media major and hopefully doubling it up with business. I had a 1340 and 3.85UW GPA, top 5%. BU gave me no money and American gave me 12k a year so that was my decision there.

Added bonus American U's food is #9 in the country. Freshman 15 here I come.

I'm referring to one of the very early posts on page 1.. what is "deep springs college" and why is it so prestigious?

turned down Emory for Fordham's 5 yr accelerated BS + MBA Program

anybody thinks this was a smart move? cuz all my friends think im stupid for turning Emory down

deep spring is this male college where they accept i dunno how many people like less than 100? im just guessing... u have to write 6 extended essays just for the application form! its even probably harder to get in than harvard; its a 2 year program and they learn academic + survival stuff i think... but after they graduate in 2 years they usually finish the remainder of the 4yearundergrad at an ivy or stanford or such

Personally I discourage getting an accelerated BS+MBA. Unless an MBA is from a top 20 school (which Fordham isn't) then it really wouldn't be worth the extra time and sacrificed salary.

y do people want accelerated BS+MBA.... does it give them higher salary?

Deep Springs is in Nevada. It is a learning/farming community. I would not call it prestigious necessarily, but since they only accept 12-16 students each year (total student pop.=25), and about 200 apply, it is %wise more selective than any Ivy.

Starbury, I wouldnt have done that. Its not Emory BA only, its just by doing alright at Emory and working a couple years you will get into a much better MBA than Fordham. An mba w/o work experience isnt nearly as valuable.

still no one answered y anyone would want an acceleated degree from a so-so college

Deep Springs is suitable for only a very, very narrow number of students. It's just too weird (on purpose) to be mainstream in any way. So if the idea of being a macho intellectual who gets to be apart from society for a few years and talk and argue a lot while working on a farm/ranch appeals to you, you'll probably like it, get in, and go there no matter where else you get in.

well... im sure if u went to deepspring its not hard to go to harvard afterwards

y not do a 2nd MBA later on from a more prestigious school? Wouldnt you say, initially, an MBA would hold a lot more weight than those with an undergrad degree?

im prolly gunna get an MBA in finance during the 5 yr program and then get my work experience and then perhaps go onto a more prestigious school for lets say marketing or something else...dunno

I am getting my MBA right now at Columbia. Most top schools won't accept a second MBA. Wharton is one of the few that do, and even they are more than hesitant.

Its not worth it to do this. If you get one MBA, just stick with it.

The other path (top school and then later MBA)? Going to a place like emory, if you can get a 3.5+ you will likely get a good job. Its pretty much inevitable. After 3-4 years, a top MBA will also come naturally, and when you get out you will have some serious credibility.

The problem with the five year MBA is that top firms dont know where to place you, so you often get stuck in undergrad type job positions. On the other hand, you likely wont need to get an MBA later on, so there are two years you can skip.

There are pluses and minuses.

well its not about getting it from a so-so college...its just that ill have the degree under my belt....which i think is more important than US news rankings...and u can always go on for a 2nd MBA in something else u like
and besides im sure those with an MBA degree.....let it be a 5 yr program...is still more attractive than a BBA degree even from a top 20 school like Emory....and besides Fordham I think location wise is better as it is in the middle of the financial capital of the world...i was thinking along those lines
