No thanks, Harvard

What exactly do they see in Olin?

I suppose it's the money. I don't know - if they got free rides to MIT, Caltech, or HYPS, would they still go to Olin?...

I'm more wondering just what people see in Deep Springs. Strange place.

Being in the middle of the desert- hot and sweaty - with all guys seems more like a nightmare to me than a place to go to college. To each his own, I guess.

a friend of mine whos also a national merit finalist and a 1600'er is rejecting Princeton and Harvard for Arizona State ( which actually pays him money to go to that college)

If Deep Springs had a program for girls, I would TOTALLY apply.

Deep Springs teaches a person diligence and I would argue matures them. It also makes them learn to budget their time and work for the community.

It's stuff you can learn anywhere, but I think an isolated environment like that is likely to accelerate it.

I'm not sure if this counts, but a senior I know is turning down Harvard for Princeton. Another senior at my high school is turning down UPenn and Columbia for Stanford.

I turned down Harvard for Duke. But that's cause I got rejected from Harvard.

haha, that's funny amused

I have a friend who turned down a free ride from Caltech to go to New Mexico Tech instead. The undergrad atmosphere didn't appeal to her much, and she's very happily studying physics in a department where she's not dismissed as a dime a dozen-type student.

you know what the girls say about caltech- the odds are good..but the goods are odd.

Nope that's just any techie school. ;-)

Turned down Princeton, Columbia, Brown - PLME, and Dartmouth for Northwestern HPME

wondrlst, that's hilarious! I know someone who turned down Stanford for a state school.

LOL you guys are so funny i laughed out loud

=)

I know a senior who turned down Duke, Cornell, and Johns Hopkins for a guarentee at the Miami Medical School following 2-3 years Miami undergrad.

I'm a freshman at UC Berkeley right now (I love love love it), but I turned down Yale and Columbia to come here. Never regretted it once, but a big part of my decision was yes, the money, and the fact that UC Berkeley would be sort of close to home (I'm from Hawaii).

Also know 2 seniors who turned down Harvard undergraduate for 6/7 year medical school programs at Miami and St. Louis.

However, for me Harvard undergraduate is my number one choice.

i turned down upenn and uva for uga honors. i promise i'll be succesful somehow...

I'll likely turn down Berkeley for UCLA.
