i know a girl last year who turned down stanford for loyola marymount because of money.

If you decide not to go to HYPS (etc.), you don't get to go around saying, "Well I turned down _____" for the rest of your life.

This thread is one giant ego-stroke.

I am turning down Penn, Cornell, & Northwestern for Berkeley. I really don't want to, but my parents gave me a whole guilt trip about the money issue (though it's still "up to me"), and it's 20 mins away from home. 15k a year versus 33k a year.

Post-April 1st, absolutely.

Before that it's an awesome resource.

:)

A teacher at my school turned down Harvard Law for UT Austin. He'll be going there next year.

A senior at my high school is turning down Dartmouth College (likely letter recipient) for UC Davis.

I turned down Harvard for Washington & Lee.

And yes, that is an ego stroke. And yes, I feel that I deserve it-- not for getting into Harvard, not for turning down Harvard, but for making the right decision. I'm so incredibly happy that, while using this website as a great resource, I never let myself get so sucked in that I bought into the great New England hype (for the wrong reasons), and I'm going to be a much happier, more successful person because of it.

Oh.. my.. god... get over youself!!

This is the reason that I can't stomach these forums sometimes....

whaa......??

It's also worth noting that Willywonka was offered a full ride to W&L, so we're not exactly comparing apples to apples here...

I'll reiterate that I hate this thread for the ego-stroking it embodies.

hahaha you guys are funny

turnin down gtown, duke and hopkins for umdcp full scholarship

I turned down a job at Brookings to be an intern at McDonalds.

At least I get free meals. :p

this beats them all......a senior at my school is turning down a full ride at harvard so he can go to texas a&m and become a pro-football player. he is good at football, but still...

Actually, that kind of makes sense. The last draft at Harvard was in like 1967 or something.

but its still a full-ride at harvard versus the extremely small chance he will become pro

I agree.. that kid is nuts! Besides, if he's really that good, he'd be a star at Harvard (perhaps even more advantageous for the draft.. who knows?)

It is apples to apples, because it wouldn't have been expensive at all for me to go to Harvard. But you're right, I was unnecessarily jerk-y in the way I put it-- but I'm not going to lie, I made a great choice (once again, for me) and I'm not going to not talk about it when the opposite choice is being discussed so much on this site. People should really know that it's okay to not go to Harvard for reasons other than money.

I guess I'll come back in a year or so to tell everyone whether or not it worked out.
