What? Am I missing something? Or is there REALLY no short answer asking what we like about Harvard? That seems really strange to me...

Nope. There is none. (Harvard has the highest yield rate in the country, so they don't really need to weed out for "demonstrated interest.")

You can use your optional supplement essay to write one, but I think it's more helpful to add an essay that displays more of your personality or something.

The responses would all be the same...

"I like red bricks, I like harvard square, I loovvveee Boston, I like crimson colors, I have always loved Harvard, Harvard has great programs in everything...etc."

What other reasons could there be? "I need to go to Harvard or my parents/girlfriend/social group will disown me."

haha. oh right--how could i forget?
and i should write about dis-ownership as my supplemental essay.

WHY am i even applying?

thanks, by the way! and i'm leaving because this site makes me feel bad.

Why you for this college is ALWAYS the implicit question on every college application. Harvard doesn't have to ask that explicitly, because you can figure out for yourself that that is part of what you have to make clear on your application, that you and the college have a good fit.

Good luck in your applications.

Hmmm...... IMHO, out of the 30,000 people that apply to harvard, 25,000 apply because its HARVARD. Sorry, I'm not trying to sound snobbish or anything, I just think it's true. Just my 2 cents, don't attack me :S

Back in the 60's, my high school english teacher applied to Harvard and they did have such an essay. He didn't want to go there, but his parents made him apply. The essay question was along the lines of "Why are you applying to Harvard?" and his response was along the lines of "My mom made me."

He was accepted, but went to Grinnell instead. He later went to Harvard for his master's degree in education.

Harvard assumes that if you're applying, you probably want to go/you demostrate interest by applying. There are soooo many good candidates, they don't need another another essay telling them all the same thing (something I really like about Harvard) :)

Harvard's confident enough to be sure that everyone applying there knows why "it's the best", and adcoms are more concerned with the "Why You?" question than the "Why Harvard?" one.

lol.

just submitted my app yay!!!!!!!

party~

Yeah I hate why blabla essays, they are so limiting.
