Noise Level

Yeah, there are courtesy quiet hours in effect 24/7. There is this room up and three down that always blasts their music. We’re on a first name basis because once I can understand the lyrics, I go pound down their door. It’s a love/hate relationship.

Anyway, I want to tell you that you’ll get your guitars stolen since you seem like that kind of a dick who will play it really loud. But you won’t. My boyfriend has an acoustic and electric and hasn’t had any problems (and he never locks his door) the kid who lives above me also has no problems (unfortunately.)

I would get some sort of insurance taken out on the guitars

Actually, you might get it stolen. A guy in my dorm has been going into unlocked doors and stealing laptops… I think we can assume that if a guy that’s going around stealing laptops sees a big shiny guitar, he’s going to take that, too. You can’t really ask people if it’ll get stolen, because it might, might not. Depends if there’s people in your vicinity who don’t give a **** about other people’s property. (You know, like there are people who don’t give a **** about being obnoxiously loud.)

If you leave your door locked, it’s very unlikely for it to be stolen.

If you leave your door unlocked, your guitars probably won’t be the only thing stolen.

why not set up a security camera in your dorm? i’m kinda surprised more people don’t do that actually.

^because you can just lock the door.

Good stuff here. You guys are right… Im gonna buy some headphones so I dont bother anyone.

Eh, 120w solid state isn’t that bad. If you were running a 120w tube head through giant cabs it might be a problem haha. I wouldn’t bother with a practice amp though: you just spent a bunch of cash on that sound and you shouldn’t have to sacrafice it: get a headphone adapter and a good pair of studio headphones. Should come out to about the same cost as a little Roland cube or comparable little amp.

I’m in no place to talk about typical dorm settings though…my house is of about 35-40 people depending on the term, no one locks their doors, people constantly leave their laptops on the common room table/couches, or on the kitchen table. Nothing is ever stolen. Ever. Well, people will eat anything unlabeled in the fridge, but that’s about it. We’re also a loud house that occasionally has a four piece rock band practicing in someone’s room. It gets loud. No one minds.
