Nomination (Military Child)

Hello,

I couldn’t seem to find any information regarding this topic at all, so I thought I would ask.

I am a military child, and currently live in San Diego. However, my father is a resident of Missouri (pays taxes to there, etc.)

When applying for a nomination, would it be in anyway possible (or should I say allowed,) to apply to a congressman in Missouri (disregarding the fact that I would have to fly over there for an interview, etc.)? I have only lived in San Diego for a few months, and from what I have heard, you are a resident of whatever state your parents are from. I feel as though there would be much less competition there, especially with San Diego being a Navy town.

My apologies if I am completely misunderstanding this process. I just have not been able to obtain any information on this topic.

You would apply to the congressional district in which your parents reside. That means where their primary residence is and where they vote. When you open a congressional nomination application there will be questions to determine if it is your congressional district. You will also be eligible for a Presidential nomination due to your parent’s service.

While it is too late for this year, I’m going to go ahead and respond for any future applicants. I had a similar question that I put towards my Blue and Gold Officer. His response was that I can apply using ONE district. That could be either parent, however, it is highly advised that you choose the location where you reside for the majority of your time because in person interviews are often requested.
