Hi everyone I have a quick question. I already have a presidential nomination but today received a letter from my moc that said I was an alternate for the primary nomination. Does this mean I'm in his "top 10" ? Thanks in advance.

It sounds as if your MOC gave a "principal" nom and 9 alternates. If true, what that means is that, if the principal nominee is fully qualified (academically, physically, medically), that person must be given that MOC's appointment.

If that person is not fully qualified, USNA can turn to the alternates. The MOC may have provided an ordered list of alternates which USNA must follow or may have just provided an unordered list of an additional nine and USNA could choose among them.

In any event, all of the fully qualified alternates will go into the national pool and compete against others throughout the US for the many appointments that aren't slotted to MOCs or the President.

Thus, this is very good news and you should be very excited.

just a quick question (i have my last MOC interview next saturday) - is it appropriate to ask at the end of the interview or to ask the staffer what kind of slate the congressman will be submitting?

Gut feel - don't ask. I'm not sure why I think that and, under the right circumstances, it may be ok. For example, if you're asked specifically, "Do you have any questions about the process or what happens next?" -- that might provide a good opportunity. But other than that, I'd let it be. There's nothing you can do about the answer and the question has the potential to put your interviewers on the defensive.

USNAbound,

Congrats on the nominations. I have my MOC interview next Saturday.

Thanks 85', hopefully I can be 12'. And thank you steve for the congrats. Good luck with your interview. I'm really excited but will not be satisfied until I arrive at I-day.
