Nominations

Just received a letter today from Resident Commissioner Luis Fortu

Congratulations! Most states nominate a bit later. California nominations will be announced the week after Christmas from what I have heard.

Congrats! I have recieved a my presidential nomination but still have not gotten my appointment information for the senators, i live in Maryland i guess the timing is all up to the Senators themselves, congrats again!

I live in Oklahoma, and our nominations will be announced in December. I have two interviews sometime in December (they still need to send me a letter telling me what date), and as one of the Senators, I don't think he gives an interview. I got a letter saying they'll be deciding by mid December, but yet it said nothing about an interview.

Raider:
The senators do not appoint, they nominate. It is up to each Service academy to make the appointments.

Each member of congress can only have 5 constituents in attendance at a service academy at one time (not counting those appointed based on other sources of nominations). Nominations must be reported to each academy by the end of January. Other than that, each member of congress has a unique timetable that is followed. Some do not receive enough requests to schedule interviews, others are overwhelmed. Depends on the district and state.
CM

when i said appointment i was just referring to the actually times i meet with them, it would however make my year if i got a letter from the naval academy involving the word appointment haha

VCM,

Congratulations! One question, though.... Did the nominator specify if you were the primary or an alternate, or were you the only nominee? It's somewhat important...

I'd be interested to know the answer to Mr. Beeblebrox's (also known as Zaphod) question also. From most of what I've heard, if the MOC's rank the nomination it's kept secret, but maybe I'm wrong.

Some MOC's don't rank their candidates....and more and more are not doing so, as this is USNA's preference. And I don't know if it's a 'secret'. One friend of ours who is in his 2nd year at USAFA knew he was the #1 Candidate from his Congressman who made no secret of ranking his choices.

Our Congressman doesn't rank . However his Interview Board ranked their suggested nominations to the Congressman based on the personal interviews and applications to the Congressman. He then took the recommendations of the Board into consideration for his list of 10 names for each slot.

And our Congressman last year didn't even interview until mid-December - with notices coming out mid-Jan. Even with an LOA - that seemed like a very long time to wait last year at this time. Funny - now it's all ancient history. Desire and longing plays a big part in one's perceptions, doesn't it?

Hang in there, all of you. Plug away at senior year and stay focused.

God speed to you all.

I'm knocking on wood heavy here, but I don't think we have too much worry on the Nomination front. Idaho is one of those low population states, where the MOCs don't interview because they don't have huge crowds to choose from. Last year our CAP Cadet Commander got nominations from both Senators and our Congressman for multiple Academys, and he already had a Presidential. He was very deserving, but a lot of people get multiples from Idaho because there just aren't that many candidates. It sure aint California.

By the way VCM, congratulations on the Nom.

Most Congressmen don't specify a primary nominee nor do they rank the slate. As peskemom stated, that is the nomination method preferred by the Admission Board because it gives them the most flexibility in offering appointments. However, most Senators do specify a primary nominee and/or rank the whole slate.

FWIW, I was the "third alternate" my first go-around, and the primary the second. Granted, that was a long time ago, and every MOC is different, but it would be interesting and telling to know what happened in this case.

OTOH, I suspect that Puerto Rico doesn't resemble California, Maryland, or New York when it comes to the number of applicants. Never know year-to-year, of course....

I hear in a week. Yay, I had my itnerview today and I'm nervous as hell, but I think it went well.

congrats glitterhairdye- keep us posted!

I got a letter today from Senator Allen's staff indicating that I had advanced to the interview stage of the nomination process. The letter said that 291 people had applied and 80 were selected to be interviewed; and of the 80, 20 are for the Naval Academy. After the interview on the 18th, I will be notified by December 22.

I think I shall be reviewing the interview thread very carefully until then...
[Which is great, thank you everyone!]
