Nominations

Dad2B- my mom grew up on the south shore. The New Englanders will have to have a get together or something as we near I-Day.....do parents clubs do something like that? My mom and dad were curious about joining the parents club etc. if any parent has any info on it?

What are the North Shore and the South Shore? I keep hearing these terms, and being from the Midwest, have absolutely no idea what they refer to...

I would definitely have your parents reach out to their Parents Club. Here is the link: http://usna.com/Communities/Parents/Parents.htm The various clubs will not get any information on the incoming class for quite some time. The clubs are a great resource for parents and are happy to welcome members to the incoming class as soon as possible. The sooner that you reach out to them, the sooner you can get plugged into their activities. Most of the clubs host a picnic or some other activity in the spring to welcome the members of the new class. It is a great opportunity to meet others prior to I-Day. It is also an opportunity to speak with current Midshipmen and their parents. I know that in our club, current members provide a great deal of support to the parents of Plebes and answer many of their questions. They will also recommend that you join the two listservs as soon as you commit to attend the Academy. They can be found at www.usnaparents.com and www.usna-net.org. Good luck to all applicants!

APan5-
Yep, they host an official send-off for all the MA, NH, and RI USNA plebes-to-be at a Welcome Aboard Party in June (June 18th in Boston for Class of 2010). Then a plebe parent's picnic usually in July.

Marmadillo-
Boston is in the middle pretty much of Massachusetts' eastern shoreline, so north of Boston shoreline towns are referred to as "north shore" and same goes for the shoreline towns south of boston upto the Cape Cod canal being referred to as the "south shore". South of the canal...it's the "Cape and Islands" or Cape Cod, Martha's Vinyard and Nantucket.

thanks Dad2B'2010 -- that's a great link that i definitely have to pass on to my parents.

Thanks for the links everyone, the replies are appreciated!

has anyone else received the email about our CIS password changing?

yes, we have

peskemom

we have as well.

656 of them in my son's batch (maybe all of region one?).
And no, I didn't count them...MS Word did ;)

I was about to say. . .

Dad2B, you got the e-mail? i was thinking that Region One DIDNT get them for some reason, since i didn't. i don't know why that happened, since i get everything else from them normally. you didn't happen to see an SLsinnott@aol.com address on that list, did you? (jk!) maybe my computer is spazzing, or maybe USNA has decided that it doesn't want me anymore . . . :-)

boston usmc:
Yep, you are in the "To:" list in my son's email from USNA today. Come on...they haven't forgotten you!!! :)

really? it was on there? haha, thanks for looking! i just checked all my e-mail for today again, and it still hasn't come through . . . maybe it will pop up by tomorrow. thanks for checking for me!

Maybe it got spam filtered? You are definitely in the list. Don't sweat it...It only gives you heads up for a snail mail on its way with new password effective December 16th at 06:30.

oh okay that's plenty of time then; thanks a lot!

Here's one for the record-
Senator Kerry's committee interview was cancelled after congressman nomination was discovered!

Well,
As explained by the caller, Kerry only had 23 candidates on his list for USNA and he has 20 noms available. So they are trying to get the list down to only 20 so they don't have to perform interviews. I happened to take the call and explained that my son would still want a nomination from senator Kerry, however the staff person insisted that my son does not need it.

I had the same thing here with our congressman, they don't like duplicates.

Well, at least the congressman didn't cancel his interview because my son already had a presidential!

If I had another child that was going to go through this, I would tell him/her to wait until the deadline to apply for the presidential. I think my son may have just been lucky that his congressman's office doesn't check candidate nominations online prior to his relatively early (Nov 19th this year) interview cycle.

In any case...it's all upto the USNA admissions office now...;)

Our MOC do not have interviews. Any ideas why not?
