Nominations

If we already have one nomination, do you we need to continue getting more?

do we*

It is always best to apply and compete for all nomination sources for which you qualify. Presidential nominations are given to any candidate who qualifies due to their parents’ service, but only 100 of them can be charged appointments. Normally we see 600-800 candidates get the Presidential, but only 100 can get an appointment from it. It is not unusual to see an appointee’s charged nomination source get changed as the process goes on into April. If you have multiple nominations then it makes it easier for USNA to keep you on the list. It would be terrible if you didn’t apply to any other sources and were #101 on the Presidential list and missed out on getting an appointment because the Academy had no other option to charge an appointment. One thing to note: In some very competitive districts you will only be allowed one nomination and the Senators and Congressmen compare notes so that they do not duplicate nominations. In that case you can only do so much.
