Non-Competitive HS?

How much does going to a HS that is not competitive hurt me? I have a good rank 3-4/~300ish and gpa 3.98uw, but should mentioning the non-competitiveness of my HS be smart for my essay and application? Will this severely hurt me?

P.S.: Happy Labor Day!

I would think mentioning the NON-competetiveness of your high school would have a negative impact on your application. It would lessen the impact of your high rank and GPA. Because you have achieved at the top of your class, your high school's lower standing should not be a problem.

It is not your job to say anything about whether your HS is or is not competitive. The colleges figure this stuff out for themselves based on the school descriptions that the guidance counselors include with their letters and/or your transcripts.

Lots of students like you who graduate from "not-remotely-competitive" high schools get into very fine colleges and universities. Please do not lose one second more of sleep over this issue!

Truly. They want to see that you make the most of the opportunities you have. Don't submit any judgements about your high school. Positive essays are always preferable to negative ones.
