I was a full-time student at my quarter system school prior to this last week. I was going through a lot and I dropped a class that I failed a final for. Apparently, the highest grade that was possible for me no matter what I scored on the final was a C, so I figured I should just drop it.. Now, I am not a full time student. I am only a part-time student with 8 units when I had 12 units before. Are my chances at med school ruined???

You dropped the class after the final? How do you do that?

And yeah. It hurts. Can it be overcome? It’s worse than a W because it drops you to part-time status. But you need to figure out whether your drop resulted in a W or something worse.

Thanks, but this wasn’t after the final. This was 6th week. Half way through the quarter after my midterm… It IS a W.

Is being a part time student really bad to med schools?
What could be worse than a W? What do you mean by that??

Sorry. Still not computing.

At many schools withdrawal after a set time has consequences. If passing at the time of withdrawal, it’s a WP. While if failing, it’s a WF which is recorded as an F.

Ah, I’m sorry… I meant to put midterm…
Do all schools put WP or WF? My school said they only put “Dropped on X week”

bump anyone?

Priority #1 - Make sure that your Medical Insurance still covers you.
Second, it is hard to imagine to have only 12 hrs to begin with. Most pre-meds have more. To avoid this, sign up for more classes next time, so if you drop one, you are still full time.
Third, if you had hard time with 12 hours (no matter what was going on in your life, do not even mention any personal reasons), how you would carry load at Med. School? The load is so much heavier, there is absolutely no comparison even for those who had 18 - 19 hrs in UG.
This 3 would be at the top of my list of worries. I would not worry too much about Med. School adcoms…not yet, not at this point,…way too early.

Pretty much every school puts a WP or WF on the transcript if you withdraw after the drop-add period.

@Miami, It is normal to take 12 hours at my school. I am on the quarter system. Meaning 3 classes a quarter is the norm. 4 is challenging yourself. Hardly anyone does 5.

Okay, thank Miami. I will try to worry less and just work on improving my grades… As of now, I am not a full time student and have a W on my transcript… That worries me. :/
