Non-HYP Ivies

Columbia. Brown second.

True, but let’s be honest: outside of CC, the most common answer would probably be Columbia.

Maybe it’s because I lived right outside of NYC my whole life, but Columbia never held the “mystique” of other top schools in my hometown.

I wonder which I would have picked, even over HYP…

why would anyone want to go to brown, even if the only other choice was community college?

seriously, what’s so good about brown?

^ ^ ^ Don’t be ridiculous. There’s no reason to be inflammatory.

I just want to know what’s so good about brown

■■■■■ alert.

what’s so good about Brown? let’s see, always one of the most selective colleges on an annual basis, elite student body, always ranks in the top 5 nationally in princeton review’s categories for “quality of life” and “happiest students” (e.g. not a cut-throat atmosphere), not dominated by a large / majority grad student population (e.g. H / Y / Penn / Columbia / Cornell), absolutely great college setting (not too remote (e.g. Cornell/Dart), not dominated by a huge city (Columbia/Penn), consistently a top feeder into the elite grad schools (e.g. Harvard Law School and Yale Law School) and finally, the statistic which really speaks for itself – one which come directly from the applicant pool –> Brown has the most cross applicants with HYPSM applicants (outside of HYPSM itself) – guess those students know something you don’t.

so, recapping:

great student body

great quality of life

great campus

great post-grad opportunities

top notch academics with a LAC-like atmosphere / focus on undergrads rivaled only by Princeton and Dartmouth (e.g. every Brown professor is required to teach an undergrad class – you can’t say that at Harvard or Yale)

the question isn’t why would you want to go to Brown, it’s why WOULDN’T you want to go there.

you’ve obviously got an agenda (perhaps you are a brown reject), but please, brown is one of the most sought after schools in the nation and with very good reason.

nope. I’m still in highschool, and I will definitely not apply to brown.

I have no idea why I hate brown so much as I’ve said before.

uh… okay… sure.

I’m just expressing my opinion. There’s nothing wrong with that. If i were trying to ■■■■■, I’d’ve made a new account.

I dunno, but brown seems to be the least attractive ivy to me. Its international ranking shows that.

“rankings” that is what you are basing your views on?

again here is some food for thought:

Brown has the most cross applicants with HYPSM applicants (outside of HYPSM itself)

The Revealed Preferences study ranked Brown no. 7 nationally and the most desirable Ivy after HYP.

you have to ask yourself what the top students internationally and nationally know that you don’t.

That’s not really going to help, as I don’t know what I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking you guys.

I’m very sure you do too, to a certain extent. I’m not saying I base everything on rankings, though. It’s ranked high in the US, and it’s part of the ivy league, yet I don’t feel it’s attractive at all.

There’s nothing wrong with rankings. Everyone is effectively making their own rankings when they have their college lists, their dream schools, their safeties etc.

I just want to know some of the better qualities of brown, something specific, not just oh, it has a great ____ and great _____ and it’s great at _____.

proof please

EDIT: oh, and appearantly everything good about brown you’ve brought up is from rankings.

Brown, even over HYP

there is a clear difference between an academic study like the Revealed Preferences study and a ranking published by a “for-profit” publication like USNEWS.

as for the cross-applicant data, give me some time to post a link

also, let’s keep the running tally in the following format if possible (updated)

Penn - 11
Brown - 9
Dartmouth - 8
Cornell - 6
Columbia - 4

Penn is king now! nice.

Penn - 12
Brown - 9
Dartmouth - 8
Cornell - 6
Columbia - 4

^^“King” of what? King of opinions on this thread? That’s a pretty tiny kingdom.

username, haven’t I discussed this with you elsewhere? Why don’t you go do searches of my posts on the Brown forum and read around there a bit since you clearly don’t know anything, good or bad about the school, to justify your self-admitted irrational hate.

lol. get mad, it’s amusing.

Interestingly, that’s the main thing I did NOT like about Brown. While some of its buildings were attractive in themselves (e.g. Robinson), taken as a whole the campus seemed extremely small and cramped.

Dartmouth, then Cornell. Don’t get me wrong, I still love Cornell!

Wow, check out all the Penn love.

I, also, would choose Penn.
