non traditional student

Hey everyone,

I am 25 and am waiting to transfer into UF from a Florida community college. I have a 3.93 GPA and a 4.0 pre professional GPA. Do you think my age will be a negative factor? I have spent the last 5 years travelling around the world and generally having the best time of my life and am finally ready to finish my education. ANy thoughts or people you know in my situation? Thanks a bunch.

sure, if UF is a fan of discrimination law suits otherwise no.

I think only 34% of transfer students (with AA’s from a Florida Community Colleges) were admitted last year. Also only 10% of the other kinds of transfers were admitted.

If you are not admitted then it has nothing to do with age in my opinion.

The problem is the legislature really cut into the higher education budgets the last few years, and there simply are not enough spots anymore at the University of Florida. Basically the state does not want to give proper funding.

Acceptance of transfer students has to be approved by the college of your major so they vary. My daughter was accepted with an AA to the CLAS. They were serious about her having all of the pre-reqs (lower level) courses for her major. That might be a bigger barrier than your age…

I don’t think your age would be an issue.

Based on this year’s admissions for transfers that I’ve seen, you’re pretty much a shoe-in with those GPAs…what major anyways?
