I want to increase my knowledge over summer :) by reading alot.

What are good nonfiction/historical fiction books, etc that are interesting?
And if you could include a brief description?

I'd especially like to read more about psychology...

Many thanks!

Read "Nickel and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich.

The author went undercover as a reporter and recorded her experiences living on minimum wage in America. It's a great book about the serious issues regarding distribution of wealth in the U.S. Also, it was on the freshman reading list at UNC-Chapel Hill last year.

Can't Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We Think and Feel by Jean Kilbourne

The title kind of explains it all. It's a very intriguing concept.

Im A Stranger Here Myself by Bill Bryson

This is a hilarious book about an American-born man who had moved to Britain, and then returns 20 years later to America.

nonfiction? hmm....
never read it.

Books by Matt Ridley like Genome and Nature via Nurture. He writes about biology for the general public. Its really interesting stuff.

Good Muslim, Bad Muslim by Mahmood Mamdani gives a really good discussion of the roots of conflict between america and the middle east.

If you have any interest in philosophy, go check out some Plato. I especially like his dialogues like Meno and Phaedo.

Fast Food Nation is pretty interesting (although a bit offputting).

Hope that helps!

OMG READ ANYTHING BY DAVID SEDARIS--HILARIOUS

oh but nobody's telling me what he writes about!

"me talk pretty one day" was hilarious

He writes nonfiction autobiographical humor. He's very gay, and he writes about himself and his family basically. lol, that doesn't make it sound very good, but he's extremely funny!
