NOOOO I hate my grades... HOPING AND PRAYING for cal or ucla! chance me plz =(

I'm a rising senior from California, and trying to get into for the most part UCLA, and Berkeley, but dear god, i saw the stats today in this little booklet "introducing the university 2007-2008" and according to that, i only have a 2.9 percent chance (cal, la) if it was based on GPA ALONE. (3.3-3.69 242/8,452 was accepted) =[ yea, well knowing that gpa isn't everything in college admission i was wondering if you guys can chance me. The only thing i have thats decent in my hs career is perhaps ACT/SAT I/II, and i'm hoping, and PRAYING that it will increase my chances to those schools.
Well here are my stats:

3.675 10-11 grades (the UC gpa right?)

Took AP Calc junior year along with APUSH, and AP Bio. Soph year only took AP Euro. 2 C's total, in Calc and bio. 4/4/3 Euro/Apush/bio ap scores. Workload for senior year will be all ap classes. oh yea, i also took stats this summer at a cc and got an A.
SAT
2250 (690 reading/800 math/760 writing)

SAT II - 780 in Math II, Bio 700, APUSH 750 (these scores were on my 2nd retake if that matters)

ACT - 31 yay (i thought i did horrible since it was my first time taking the test... geez the time limit is insane for all those questions.)

EC's
Cross Country 1 year Varsity (varsity letter, and dunno if the scholar athlete is really worth anything ^^;;)
Track 3 years varsity, perhaps Captain senior year
Kiwins (2 years 11-12)
Red Cross (2 years 11-12, secretary)
Knowledge bowl (sigh) dunno if i should put this in, since i rarely even show up to meetings, but teacher asked me since sophomore, and i've been going on and off
Science Olympiad (same, on and off since sophomore year)

I'm really applying to all the UCs, but i'm hoping to get into cal, or la =/ . I want to goto medical school in a couple of years, so is there a chance that i should apply to any outta state with good pre med programs instead? If so, please recommend me my safeties/matches/reaches for outta states. Any thoughts on what i can do to improve my chances would be appreciated, even though i know its a little bit late, but hey i got 4 months left.

Thanks

ucla - maybe slight reach
cal - match

wow yay, 1st reply thanks mtf and also i forgot to add those sat scores were on my 3rd attempt, would that lower my chances?

could but i think they may composite the scores. im not sure.

Cal and UCLA are both real reaches for you. You should be OK at the other UCs.

any last minute recomendations? or any recommendations on whetheri should apply elsewhere for pre med?

I think you'll get into both. Admissions are not that hard in-state.

If that 3.675 is weighted (as UC gpa is) then you have virtually no chance at either Berkeley or UCLA. Over 40% of applicants with above 4.0 GPAs are rejected, so your GPA is really a killer.
You definitely need to choose some safeties. Within the UCs, I would say that
Berkeley, UCLA: super-reach
UCSD: slight reach to reach
Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara: safe match to match
Santa Cruz, Riverside, Merced: safeties

The UCs use the highest single-sitting SAT scores. They don't use composite scores or care about the lower scores. This is according to their Website.

An SAT of 2250 is very good.

Cal - 4.17 average for matriculated, but for those accepted, it's probably like 4.25. Anyone have the '06 freshman data? I knew someone with 4.3 who got rejected.
For some reason, Cal's SAT scores are low; 2250 would put you in about the 90th percentile.
SAT II scores really need help as Math Level 2 is regarded as a free 800 if you use a TI 83/89, and if you study for Bio, etc... you should be getting around 750.

Once you get out of undergrad, go to UC San Francisco. Extremely good for med.

yea, the 3.675 is weighted =/, i kept getting B+ and such during sophomore year. (sigh) ouch...so virtually all is lost? how important is gpa according to UC's, and by the way, isn't there a chance that my sat I/II scores make up for that? since a 2250 put me into a 90 th percentile for their admits, wouldn't that give me some leverage, and balance out a 3.675? Gosh, looking back, i really hate it, i mean the classes aren't really that hard, but its the damn procrastination that gets to me, and kills me in the end. honestly for all my AP tests i learned more about the subject in 2 days before the test, than i did the whole year round.

Apply anyway regardless of what anyone here says and make sure you have some good safeties. For the UCs it's easy since it's one app for all of them as long as you don't mind paying the app fee for each school you check off. The app fee is nothing compared with the school cost so it's not worth skimping in this area (IMO).

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach

Hi.. In the UC system you self report your grades on the resume (you send in the transcript of course as well). Do they look at your actual grades and the classes you took (ap/honors vs regular) or do they look more at just your gpa. With gpa do they look at your weighted gpa or unweighted gpa. Do they only focus on the UC gpa? Is your UC gpa the same as your 'academic gpa' from highschool? Thanks!

do you go to a really good school? my school is one of the top 10 public schools in CA, and a lot of ppl here have got into cal/ucla with equal or lower gpa and similar sat scores.

but since u can't exactly fix your gpa, you could try retaking the SAT again and aim for 2300+. from my schools experience 2300+ on sat offsets a lower gpa most of the time. just go ahead and apply, you never know what might happen.

My friend got into Cal with 1700SAT and 3.7GPA. He just wrote killer essays.

Cal looks at your essay more than your gpa/sat, than UCLA does. Atleast thats what I've heard.

Cooljohn - on the apps you write down your grades, and the course you took yourself, then i think they'll compare that with your transcript. I also think there's an ephasis on rank too rather than gpa -- they probably want to see you overall compared to others at your school (sadly i didn't even make it to the top 4 percent by the end of my junior year in order to secure a uc spot). They'll probably see everything ap or not. UC gpa is weighted grade for 10-11 only.. =(

Unfortuately, i dont think my school is competitive, and its probably not known for academics. I'll try and aim for a 2300, and might as well re-prep myself for the act. gotta get started on those essays as well (sigh) i dont want to put myself in a state of false hope, or else it'll hurt alot more once i get rejection letters.
Oh, ive been looking at schools from outta state, and i'm curious if i'll be a good candidate for:
northwestern - same as below?
Cornell - setting hopes up too high?
Boston
University of Miami

Chance me again =P, lol and thanks guys for the input so far

Why would anyone pray for Cal?

did you weight your 10-11 GPA or is that just raw on a 4 pt scale?

(sigh) sadly its weighted.. thats why i "hate" my gpa lol. Oh yea, i'm taking multi-variable calc my senior year at a cc, and i think that should help out a bit.
oh yea, dranakin, btw, why shouldn't I pray for cal? What schools do you suggest?
