@Wannabenerd1Hey! Definitely apply. I am a finalist with a 4.0 gpa and a lot of volunteer/extracurricular activities. Honestly though, for this competition I don’t think that stuff matters as much as the essays. The organization of the application didn’t seem to give as much weight to personal achievements as it did to the written portion. There is a lot of stuff to fill out about yourself, but it doesn’t go very in depth. I think that if you are a good writer and work really hard on perfecting the essays, your chances are good. This is just my opinion, but I think having good grades and extracurriculars are like the icing on the cake. Hope this helped!

@alleycat2 Hello, this will be my first video interview ever and I was just wondering if you remember:
What you mostly talked about during the panel?
Which questions we’re considered difficult for you to answer?

Thanks!

@2015asuprepgrad Hey sorry if I made it sound like I’ve done this before in the above post but I’m actually a finalist right now too haha! And I have the same questions as you Are you doing the conference call tomorrow?

@alleycat2 yes, but I need an access code. This is the second time I need an access code since I am a long distance caller.

I wasn’t able to make the phone call, would you be willing to share what it said? I would greatly appreciate it!

The questions from the panel are basically going to be aimed towards the type of person who you are. You are going to be evaluated holistically Make sure your setting is adequate for a conference call as well. Good luck

@2015asuprepgrad thank you so much! good luck

Welcome(:

@katrinafendrych The main things she told us are 1. You are competing against the 15 other people in your region, and ten will win the scholarship. 2. You have 15 minutes to talk to the judges. They will ask you 7-8 questions depending on how long your answers are. She said you should try to stay around two minutes for each question. 3. Make sure you test out your Skype beforehand and are in a good, not-too-bright location 4. Go online a few minutes before your call and don’t get too freaked out if they are a little behind schedule. They will call you when they’re ready. 5. Your parents shouldn’t be in the room giving you tips during the call lol That’s pretty much the important stuff!

@alleycat2 You are so helpful, thank you! Best of luck!

Thanks alleycat and 2015. My interview is one of the last ones. Good luck to you all!

@katrinafendrych @andrewia No problem and good luck to you guys too!

Did any one have their interview yet? I’m elated just at the fact that I made it this far!

@andrewia When is your interview?

Hey guys! I was wondering if any of you had saved a copy of your application? I completely forgot to save mine and I just want to be reminded of what questions we were asked on the application. If anyone could message me or say here what the essay questions/other information we had to put in, that would be amazing!!! Good luck on all your interviews!

@xoserendipityxo I just found the one I printed out! We were asked about our top three schools, school activities, community activities, and employment. For essay one, the choices were *If you had the power to do one thing to improve the world, what would you do? *How do you define success? *What is the best advice you ever received?
The second essay was the personal statement. When is your interview? Mine is on Friday!

Mine is on Monday

@astleyrick53 Hi, would you mind sharing your stats with me (a prospective Nordstrom scholarship applicant)?

Honestly it’s not about the stats so much as the essay and rec after a certain amount of leadership/volunteering. Like the gpa and test scores mean almost nothing
If I can get my hands on a computer I will post (mobile right now)

@astleyrick53 Okay thanks for clarifying that up. So it’s not on the basis of who has more community service etc? The committee looks to make sure that you have a decent amount of community service like 50 hours or something like that and then they’ll look at your essay to see how those experiences have effected your life.
