North Campus?

How bad is North Campus and how liekly is a freshman to get it if he does not choose a roommate?

north campus is definitely not fun, taking the busses everywhere sucks. my understanding is that going in blind greatly increases your chances of being on central.

So, what are all the dorms at Michigan? And how do they rank, as in which one do most people prefer and which ones aren’t that loved?

I heard mojo is the nicest in terms of room quality and location…and Markley has the best social scene for freshman. I actually heard that Baites rooms are some of the biggest on campus, but no one wants to live there because of its location.

I don’t know how they do it these days, but you couldn’t just pick, or even rank, all the dorms when you did your housing app. in my day. You rank Central/Hill, Bursley, and Baits (I suggest you do it in that order).

yea thats what I did. I got mine in by the first deadline and I didnt request a roomate so im hoping i got a good shot for central

North Campus has its ups and downs…some of my friends got stuck there for freshman year and they didn’t hate it. Baits does have nice rooms and suite-style bathrooms that you can get as a first-year, whereas I’m pretty sure the only place on Central/Hill with those are in North Quad…specifically reserved for upperclassmen.

The rooms in East Quad and South Quad are definitely largest of all the Central/Hill dorms, and along with West Quad are the best in terms of their location.

Most of the Hill dorms are nice, too…minus Markley. It is a great place to meet other freshmen, since the dorm is all first year students, but…the rooms are closet-sized and I have heard stories about cockroaches.

^The major negative (that outweighs any positive) that you failed to mention is the need to take the bus. Eats up a lot of your day during the week (or causes you to have to spend your entire day on central until the end of your last class) and basically creates a curfew on the weekends (unless you have a place to crash). There are also no decent restaurants up there.
