So, Im 100 percent going there next year, and Im psyched. I have 1100 SAT, with a 3.7 W GPA, out of state, and somehow got into their business program. Im not the smartest of kids, above average GPA at my school (about top 30 percent), but my SAT's are mediocre.

Anyway, Im just wondering if anyones heard of NC States college of management and if it's good for a student like myself. Are there any stereotypes or things youve heard that are negative, or even positive about NC State? Anyone go there? I live in Pennsylvania, so going down there is about a 7.5/8 hour drive. Its gonna be a big change, but Im definately excited.

Sorry if this thread seems useless, Im just curious to see your opinions about the school and see if it seems like a good fit for me based on my stats.

By the way, it was down to university of cincinnati's marketing program, or NC State's.

I have heard no bad things about NC State. It no UNC, but its a good school in its own right. The football team runs very unique formations on offense.

Jethro....my d was a recruited athlete for NC State...although she signed a National Letter of Intent with another school she felt the athletes at NC State where down to earth and very friendly....she thought the atmosphere was great.....and the weather was a huge improvement over the northeast.....congrats...I am sure you will be a very successful member of the Wolfpack...

NC State's relatively large, and the campus is, um, not exactly the most attractive (unless you really, really like brick). Most of the students are in-state (~90% ?), but all the NC State students I know are very friendly, so I don't think being OOS is a bad thing at all. As for stereotypes...I haven't heard any about the Management college. Dorms are pretty nice, and some on the quad have free laundry services. Be prepared to walk a lot because the campus is big.

If I remember correctly, you live outside of Pittsburgh...have you visited yet? Just wondering because the drive from Pittsburgh to Raleigh would actually be a bit longer than you quoted. I think it took me about 8 hours to drive from downtown Pittsburgh to Chapel Hill which is a bit closer than Raleigh...but you are in the right ball-park...it's a pretty drive though with lots of mountains and high speed limits in WV!

As for State, I actually took a class there this semester (grad class so I have no clue about undergrad stuff btw) and thought it was o.k. I really liked Earth Science building, but that's the most of campus I saw. It is surrounded by fairly busy streets and the population there is vastly different than that of UNC. It seems to be a more working-class parent school for the most part than UNC. The primary 'stereo-type' of NCState is that it's the agriculture school in NC and attracts more 'hicks'.

The weather down here is great compared to Pa (excpet I'm starting to actually miss the snow...), it's mild most of the winter (today high hovering around 50), but you can get some really nasty winter weather occassionally (I haven't seen it yet though...comes mainly in the form of nasty ice!). The summers are extremely humid and can be downright nasty at times, but every place seemst to have AC here...so it's not too big of an issue. The main thing about the weather that bothers me the most (and was driving me insane yesterday...) is the cold winter rains...I'd much rather take snow than a nasty cold rain with temps in the upper 30's!

Sorry I can't tell you specifics about State and their business school, but I did live in Pa for most of my life (grew up in Lancaster, undergrad in Pittsburgh) and am now down here loving it! Let me know if I can be of any more help!

Yeah I visited down there, I actually didnt mind the campus. It wasnt the most impressive one Ive seen, it kinda reminded me a little of purdue. But yeah, I guess my brother drives a little fast which is why we got down there so quickly, or I was just off by a half hour or so. I just wanted to know if anyones heard about the academics and such, and how you think it could compare to a school like cincinnati.
