I'm kind of looking for a middle ground in terms of social life.. I want to go to a good school, but I don't want to go someplace where the workload is soul crushing and you spend your life in the library. I also am not that interested in the whole Greek life deal.. every once in awhile, sure, but it would be nice to go to a school where a semi-large amount of the population does something other than get wasted every Friday night. I'm undecided about major, but leaning towards English, journalism, or psychology.

general stats are.. top 5% of class, 2230 SATs (800 CR, 730 W, 700 M). Some random, scattered clubs and community service.. nothing amazing. Took SAT subjects, don't know what I got yet.. probably decent, not spectacular.

I'm looking into places like William and Mary and TCNJ, for example. More ideas would be great. I don't care that much about size, but about 5,000 would be ideal.

Your stats are competitive for Columbia, and I think it matches what you are looking for. It is not easy to do well at Columbia, but the work load is no Caltech. something like 10% of the students on campus are involved in greek life, and it really is a minor part of campus life. There are many cheap entertainment options apart from getting wasted. In fact a very small proportion of students actually opt to get wasted on the weekends.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. i must stress though that my ECs are like… spanish club, track team, some community service, part time job, etc… no research, internships, national awards, or any of that crazy stuff, so i think ivy leagues are out of the picture
