@TomSrOfBoston - really? What USNWR top schools admit a higher percentage of International Students than NEU? Northeastern has done an amazing job recruiting overseas. but the way they do it partly is to game the ranking…
And … American Classroom is an innovative transitional experience for international students who are looking for advanced English language preparation and an introduction to the American education system and college culture. This program is an excellent start to your American university studies and provides a comprehensive academic and cultural experience designed to help you SUCCEED AT NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY and improve your English language skills.
It does not appear to be in proportion to overall, just gross #s compared. Many schools are increasing if you look at the “growth” column, whether it be increase to diversify, or just for the full pay, who knows.
As I have posted before Northeastern’s limited endowment will hinder its ability to rise above the mid 30’s. Northeastern does not have the advantage of USC for fund raising in that being in Boston there is Harvard which is like an enormous vacuum cleaner, sucking the philanthropy out of the region.
Tom you are correct, in this chess game ultimately money can do great things. There are at least a dozen schools in New England with more money than NEU…
@clarinetdad16 Worth nothing that according to the Chronicle of Higher Education Northeastern ranks 7th for number of international students by raw numbers following NYU, USC, Illinois, Columbia, Purdue, and UCLA.
Also worth nothing that USC admits spring admits and pushes them into study abroad programs or community colleges. Noone seems to call out Emory for excluding all of the kids they send to their Oxford campus for two years before they go onto main campus. Cornell admits 125 spring admits a year, so does UC-Berkeley UCLA and all the other UC’s. BU (and other schools) were for years admitting student-athletes into the professional school instead of their full time undergraduate program and excluded their SAT scores. Northeastern is by no means the only one trying to show their best hand.
@ClarinetDad16
I’m confused what you are asking me to prove. The numbers they report to USNews are the numbers for CAS only, not Oxford. All Oxford students are moved onto main campus starting their junior year. This represents 15-20% of the student body. There is a larger SAT difference between Oxford kids and the CAS student body than there is between Fall and Spring admits at NU and that is a dramatically larger population at Emory than it is at Northeastern.
You have even less proof that none of NUs international students are submitting SAT data that gets reported.
i dont get what this petty arguing is about lol. northeastern is improving as a whole and although they are gaming the system a little, so have and are a whole bunch of universities (including BU which I’m a victim of as a Guaranteed transfer, Cornell, USC,Emory, NYU,etc.)
BU: Guaranteed transfer and CGS study abroad
Cornell: Spring admit, Guaranteed transfer
USC: Spring admit
Emory: Oxford college, transfer to main campus
NYU: Study abroad liberal arts college
it’s a little dishonest yes but it has become the norm…
