Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #2:
8- Calc and stats teacher, liked me as a student, was my tennis coach for a bit. I didn’t read it, so i can’t really judge it. He works very quickly, so I don’t know the quality of it overall, but I think he would have done a good job.
Teacher Rec #2: 7- History teacher and Mock Trial coach, don’t think he has written many letters, also didn’t read it but I think it was alright

Counselor Rec: 8, I think this one was ok, didn’t really talk w/ her much but gave her a very thorough history of myself, I think this would have been alright

Reflection

Strengths: I think my sat scores were good. I thought my extra curriculars were good, but looking at some of the other things here I feel heavily outclassed
Weaknesses: GPA was low unweighted. Didn’t have a lot of service, which I think definitely hurt.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think I was rejected because I applied for a difficult college to get into and to their most competitive field.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:

Reflection
Strengths: SAT score for math, math grades, upwards trend for physics grades.
Weaknesses: GPA and got C’s in APUSH and first semester AP Chemistry

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
My GPA , also I feel like there wasn’t anything setting me apart from other candidates. Northeastern only asks for your common app essay which I feel just showed part of me.

Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Accepted: University of Florida
Waitlisted: University of Miami
Rejected: University of Washington, Northeastern

General Comments : I thought I’d be more disappointed but I’m happy with UF. Best of luck to future applicants!

Reflection

Strengths: Difficult senior courseload, GPA, SAT II’s, rank
Weaknesses: lack of EC’s, lack of AP scores
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think my GPA/rank/test scores were the strongest component of my app. Also, being a girl and applying as a physics major was probably a plus. I was initially deferred EA, which my GC and others said was probably due to yield protection/lack of demonstrated interest, but I think it definitely could have been because of my lack of EC’s.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to Northeastern University and University of Rochester; waitlisted at Williams College

General Comments: Don’t give up! I was so discouraged when I was deferred EA. I ended up not writing a letter of continued interest because NEU is not one of my top schools, but I would highly recommend writing one if it is. Also, remember that someone with a ton of EC’s is not necessarily looked upon more highly than someone with only a few to which they dedicate a lot of time and are passionate about.
