I decided to make a thread for anyone who is planning to apply as a transfer student for the fall or spring semester of 2012 at Northeastern University. Feel free to leave comments or stats. Best of luck to all of you who are applying!

My stats:

High School: Bayside HS in Queens
I didn't do too well in high school because I slacked off
EC's: Community service (lots of hours), internship, tutoring, certain awards
AP classes: AP Java

College: Queensborough Community College
Fall Semester GPA: 3.34
EC's: None so far

For my Spring Semester, I'm hoping to get at least a 3.7 GPA if not higher

sup bro I’m planning on transferring also. just to let you know if you have like 15 credits completed and have another 9 credits in process all you have to submit is you college transcript and your mid term grades, you don’t have to submit hs grades or sat scores.

I transferred after my sophomore year so i had 36 credits and did not have to send in any extra stuff (high school, or SATS). Make sure you get all your transfer credits, I am still fighting with the administration about mine( they owe me 15 credits). Also, they give transfer students the CRAPPIEST housing and tell you around August 31st where you are living. Good luck with the process! let me know if you have any questions!

How bad is the “crappiest” housing compared to the best or average housing? Is there a huge difference?

Totoro66-
When I transferred to Northeastern, it all depended on how old you were at the time for housing placement. I would have to say that “crappy” housing would be living at the YMCA on Huntington, i am pretty sure the YMCA is all singles… but still you’re living in an old ymca. Freshman housing for the most part seems to be the places on St. Stephen Street Speare/Stetson and if your in Honors you get to live in IV. IV is beautiful, it is on the other side of campus and you have to walk through ruggles T station to get to but its a really nice building. IV has a jamba juice (sp?) and a coffee shop, they also have the best campus dining on campus. White hall seems to have pretty generous rooms, and conveniently located to the Marino center and campus.

how is the aid when it comes to transfers?

Freshman housing is better than on most campuses I’ve seen. If you’re Honors, IV is awesome, but I spent a month living in Smith during the summer, and it was totally fine.

Smith and White had reputations last year for drug use (Smith was mostly pot, but White apparently had more going on). Of course, as freshman dorms, everyone who lived their last year is gone, and the same will be true next year, and some of it was undoubtedly just rumor anyway, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I’m considering transfering and if I do it’ll be for fall of my junior year. Does anyone know how this works since the first co-op is supposed to be soph year?

Scheduling is not anywhere near that strict. Technically, you don’t need to even do a co-op, but most majors have a requirement for doing it or something else (generally, it works out that you’re better off doing co-op). Many students go on there first co-op spring of there sophomore year, but there are plenty that put it off until their third year (this is pretty common for science majors, who want to take Organic Chemistry II right after Organic Chemistry I), and even if you wait until then, it’s totally possible to do three. I’m finishing in four years, so I’m only planning on taking 1 co-op, the second semester of my third year.

Sorry but it is NOT possible to do 3 co-ops if you transfer in your third year, even if you do five years here. You aren’t allowed to transfer and be immediately on co-op (like in the fall), so the very very earliest you’d be allowed to go out with be the Spring of your third year. That’s not a given, since you’d have to take the pre-co-op class before and it might not fit in with your schedule, or other random reasons.

But if you do manage to go out spring of your 3rd year, then you can go out again spring of your 4th… but you can’t spring of your 5th- because you can’t be on co-op and then graduate (since that’d mean you’d be finished before you went on co-op… which means you’d graduate in December… and wouldn’t be allowed to do the co-op process… obviously). You also can’t do two co-ops back to back. So two co-ops would be the maximum.

The “plenty that put it off” will put it off until FALL of their third year. Then they can still do three co-ops (or two co-ops in four years).

thanks for the info guys. i hope i don’t get housed in the YMCA haha. Do you guys think a 3.3 gpa for my first semester will be sufficient for the Pyschology program under the College of Sciences?

Hey guys whats the average g.p.a to get accepted into NEU? Im planning to transfer in 2014 when I earn my associates degree. My G.P.A atm is a 3.2, but I got this year and next to go.

Hey guys,
Did anybody receive the results of the transfer 2012 application and when is it ?

I submitted my application on sunday and was just wondering when I should get access to the online portal so I can track my application status, thanks!

I just handed in my mid year report a few days ago and they told me they recieved it. I haven’t received a decision yet but I’ll be sure to post it when I find out. Best of luck to all of you.

good luck to you too! im almost done with my application as well…it just says I’m missing my in-progress coursework so I’m waiting for them to realize that’s listed on my transcript which they received!

Hey! Do you think we have to submit midterm report??

According to the last year the decisions came out in the end of March. ;)

Thanks and I will post my results as soon I get it.

I didn’t send mine in and it isn’t listed on the portal as missing or recommended

I think they only want it if you haven’t completed your first year of college yet

I got in yesterday and I finished my application on March 17! I’m suprised how fast I got it back!

Congrats on getting in! Did they send you an email telling you your decision was posted or did you just happen to check and see?
