Northeastern Transfer Thread - Fall 2018

Rejected. Kind of surprised I got into Berkeley, BU, and GWU, UCLA but not NEU. I think it was a competitive year.
Good luck to all!

Rejected with 4.0 GPA

rejected with a 3.85 shouldve applied to BU

Rejected, CS+PoliSci, 3.9GPA

It appears that the yield from the earlier rounds of acceptances was higher than expected.

Rejected with a 3.991 GPA and strong ECs. Surprising to see strong applicants also get rejected. Good luck everyone remaining.

Rejectec, strong EC’s, got a 50k scholarship to GWU, and am on the waitlist to attend UVA. I am not surprised I got rejected, since it’s clear NEU has been aggressive in increasing their selectivity this year

@msport when did you receive your decision. I havent heard back, but believe that I will be rejected for sure

@fingerscrossed today

@TomSrOfBoston So does it mean that from now on there’ll be all rejections. I havent heard back and start losing hope already.

@fingerscrossed It may depend on what program you applied to. Also, Northeastern is need aware.

Rejected 3.9 GPA accounting major

Denied today. 3.96 GPA, 1520 SAT, pretty strong application imo. Applied CS to CCIS. Got accepted to Northwestern, will be attending there instead. Northeastern was definitely my choice over it tho

how come I havent had my decision. omg

Rejected. 4.0 GPA Accounting. A lot of ECs.

@“TexasRosé_” hey! I hope you have some other great options; I remember seeing you on a couple other posts. It seems D’Amore was very very selective this year - someone earlier said it’s mostly due to yield. I guess NEU is just one of those schools that doesn’t take many transfers? No idea. I’m shocked at the people getting rejected, a lot of them got into better schools too…

I think that the number of transfers NEU accepts this year is very small given that their last freshman class was over-enrolled. Basically, they just don’t have a lot of open spots this year.

Northeastern was also overenrolled last year. Transfers are typically used to fill spaces left by people going on co-op, and the students from last years admission class will still be on campus and in classes in fall. I think that likely contributed to the lower than expected (appearing anyways) transfer rate. The major you applied to also probably affected it, and it’s also possible Northeastern saw an uptick in applicants for transferring similar to undergraduate where applications increased significantly. Given that it’s rolling admissions and transfer acceptance rate isn’t used in US News, I’m not sure how yield makes sense in this case.

Congrats to all accepted! To those rejected, enjoy your other options and don’t take it personally - admissions everywhere are more or less an imperfect and somewhat random process.

I have a 3.94 gpa with an AS from a community college. I got into some amazing schools better than NEU but also got to denied to northeastern and some other LACs in the northeast. The decision process is clearly not black and white but I would say that some of the schools being “need-aware” definitely makes a difference at least in my case, my EFC is 0. Got a full scholarship to Tufts and to USC so no complaints here. Good luck to all of you guys, I am sure you will all be successful since you all sincerely care about your school choices and futures! Much love!

@msport Thank you! I do, along with some pretty hefty scholarships thankfully. Although I was hoping to transfer out of state, looks like I’ll be staying in TX. I’m glad to see you also have a great option at GWU! I’m also shocked to see people getting into Berkeley, UCLA, etc but not NEU. This was certainly not the year to try to transfer in to NEU it seems.

Wish you all the best of luck. I know with the amazing stats I’ve seen here, theres no doubt you will no matter where you end up!
