I was accepted, but didn't get into the honors program. I got about 25K in scholarship + grant money, so it's not really worth it anyway. I was totally dissappointed.

I think a part of the reason I didn't get into the honors program may have been my major. Perhaps NEU tends to give honors invitation more to those in hard sciences and engineering, rather than those in philosophy and such. Also, they probably look more exclusively at the transcript and SAT scores, and not so much the extracurriculars and research, which was my strongest point, though my GPA was really high too, and my SAT scores were in the top 25% for NEU. I guess no use ranting about it now, but I kind of just feel dissappointed at myself, you know.

question: If students who are offered scholarships and/or Honors do not accept admission, do they then offer those to students that might have been on the edge and do attend?

expatme wrote "question: If students who are offered scholarships and/or Honors do not accept admission, do they then offer those to students that might have been on the edge and do attend?"

My D is a freshman this year and when we attended the accepted students open house last year I asked this same question and was told that NEU factors in students not accepting admission and that they don't turn around and reallocate scholarships. I do believe, however, that they may reconsider Honors status after the May 1st date when they see how many students actually are going to attend. I know of at least one example this year where that is the case. They like to keep the honors program at around 10% of the class.

Based on the Honors website, it seems like Honors program kids are chosen from the top 10% of the applicant pool.

It also seems like merit scholarships awarded for the top 25% are more often given to people between 10%-25%, since being chosen for the Honors program opens the door to other scholarships/aid. This might explain why some of you were given those really great scholarships but weren't admitted into the Honors program. Or vice versa, Honors program, but no scholarship.

MmCheezitsYay..... FYI, if you sent you SAT scores (which it looks like you did since you didn't list an ACT score) then your SAT II scores were also submitted by Collegeboard. You don't get to pick and choose, all scores get sent.
