Hi, I decided to start this thread because I couldn’t find anything on this. I’m a sophomore here at the University at Albany (SUNY) and I’m pretty much set on transferring. Northeastern is pretty much my #1 choice, basically I’d sell my soul and organs to get into there, and just want to see what I could do to show admissions how passionate I am about the school.
I intend to major in Computer Science/Interactive Media, but I’ve heard that’s pretty hard to get into. Would it be wiser if I apply for the Media Arts major, and then later switch my major if I get in?
Personally, Northeastern was my #1 choice back in high school, but they rejected me so I just settled for a state school not too far from home. My gpa was around a 90% average, with a 1210 SAT score. I also participated in extracurriculars such as varsity sports, Girls Who Code, and a public broadcasting TV station at Lehman College. In my college essay, I spoke about a social networking site I built and ran for a few years in middle school.
Two years into my undergrad, my stats are: 3.52 GPA, I run NCAA D1 Track & Field, and am currently balancing between a teaching assistant position and a marketing internship at a start-up based at my school.
Sorry if the wording for this seemed off, it’s 2am and I’m kind of sleepy. Anyways, I’d like to see who else is applying and why you guys chose Northeastern.
Yay finally an NEU thread!! Northeastern is my #1 choice too, I really REALLY hope we get in! You have a great application and stats.
Personally I am not sure which major you should pick! There is no guarantee that you will be eligible to switch majors when you get in (like transferring into computer science at UC Berkeley for example is 6%), you can always email admissions they are super helpful and nice!
My stats:
California community college student (sophomore, transferring as a junior)
Major: Communication & Media and Screen Studies
GPA: 3.87
Extracurriculars: YouTube and freelance writing/editing
Job/Work Experience: part-time teacher
Volunteer/Community service: 5 years for hospice care, 2 years for food banks, 3 years tutoring, 1 year teacher’s assist
Yessss I’ve been waiting for someone to start this thread!! Northeastern is my #1 choice too! I’m really nervous that I won’t get in. If not I’m still a freshman so I’m ok with staying at my community college for another year and will probably apply again next year if I don’t hear back! Hoping to God we all get in though :)>-!
I’m choosing Northeastern because I’ve heard AMAZING things about their nursing program. I would literally do ANYTHING to get into Northeastern. The Co-op opportunities are amazing and I think thats what makes Northeastern my #1 choice. Also Boston is great city so you’ll never be bored, trust me. I’ve also visited Northeastern 3 times and the people seem really friendly!
My Stats:
Massachusetts Community College student (currently a freshman)
Major: Nursing
College GPA: 3.601
Extracurriculars: 200 hours plus of volunteering at a hospital and BSU member

Hey guys, I’ve been working on my transfer apps for months and after visiting NEU last month I know for sure that it is my #1.
My own stats:

Major: Enciromental Science and Public policy
College GPA: 3.84

If anyone could chance me I would really appreciate it, I’m feeling quite nervous for admissions.
Good luck to everyone!
Hi everyone! I’m so scared/ excited to apply. I love Northeastern so much and the major is literally perfect for what I want to go into (UX Design) but I’m really afraid I won’t get in… that or won’t be able to afford it…
But these are my stats:
I’m a second semester Sophomore
HS GPA: 3.65/4
SAT: 1280 (which I’m not sure if I’ll submit)

I am applying as International Transfer, though I know I do not stand a chance with what I am seeing in the forum.
My stats:
International Transfer Student, applying for Computer Science.
TOEFL: 92/120 - will retake this Sunday.
HS GPA: It was evaluated only my Senior Secondary Leaving Examinations. In my country we take 4 exams.
- Literature - A
- Math - B
- Economy-Philosophy - A
- English - A
I do not know how to convert this to GPA, because the institution here in USA only evaluated these exams.
University of Tirana, Albania
University GPA: 2.63 (but dropped out many years ago)
The reason that I have low GPA is that I started to work as Software Engineer during the time I started University (started University 2011 - Started working 2012). The reason why I dropped out I had to immigrate to USA around 3 years ago.
My CV: Been working a Software Engineer since 2012 in my country, Germany and different companies in USA. I have strong Personal and Professional Recommendation letters. Academic... l found a decent one from my former professors and it is decent. (So, around 6 years of experience)
Mentor and Judge in one High School competition here in USA.
International Student are not required to take SAT or ACT.
Hi! I’m currently a freshman applying from the University of Pittsburgh. I would have completed 36 credits by the end of this year, and here are my stats:
College GPA: 3.942
SAT: 1300
High School GPA: 91% or a 3.7
I took 5 APs and almost every honors class in my school.
Majors: Environment and/or Sociology
Jobs: currently have 3 as a summer camp counselor, research assistant, and Jumpstart corps member (preschool teacher)
Activities: many leadership positions, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, NHS, FBLA, Rotary Club, I’m a radio DJ, involved in many extracurriculars, and I edit the campus sociology journal, etc.
I just applied, I and am really nervous! Could anyone tell me what my chances would be? Thank you so much.
@kbot9929 Oops! Sorry, I misread your post. If you have fewer than 24 credits they will look at your HS GPA and SAT scores but your Pitt GPA is good. Good chance of acceptance.
Hi Friends! Northeastern is also (shocker) my number 1 choice. I went to UMass Amherst for 3 semesters and made Deans List every semester. I was in their Legal Studies program and also in the Commonwealth Honors College. This semester I am living at home and attending classes at a local community college so I can care for my grandparents.
My Stats:
University: North Shore Community College (formerly UMass Amherst)
Major: Criminal Justice
College GPA: 3.807 (4.0 for the past two semesters)
Extracurriculars: Work full time at a restaurant, copious amounts of political campaign experience, former Vice President of Political Advocacy Council
Highschool GPA: 3.4
New SAT: 1200
Recommendations: Both of my recommendations should be extremely strong. One is from a professor I had for two semesters and the other is from the head of the honors program for my major.
Other schools I’m applying to: BU, Tufts, UCLA, Brandeis
