Northeastern University Transfer Thread Fall 2017

@koreanincali haha yea, I got in to BU last week

@koreanincali I’m not sure, they just said “transfer housing is full”, which makes me nervous

From the NEU website, "As of May 3, we are at capacity for incoming transfer student housing for Fall 2017 and the housing deposit is no longer available. If you would like help looking for an apartment in Boston, we highly recommend working with Off Campus Student Services. "

@collegeseeker45 so what does that mean? Will the rest of us be rejected? Or do we just have to find an off campus place to dorm at? Does it mean that the transfer student capacity has been reached??

@PixelTomato The rest of us are not going to be rejected because of this. Housing was never guaranteed in the first place. It just means we need to find off campus housing.

@collegeseeker45 oh! Thanks, and sorry. Panicked there for a while. That kinda sucks though…

That does suck. It’s not fair that because they took longer to review our applications we don’t get housing…

@transfer332

From what I can tell, they have reviewed all applications - they release in waves likely to gauge yield and number of seats left. So they offer admission to X number of students, get Y acceptances, W no responses, and Z withdrawals, and based on those numbers find the amount they can offer in the next wave. Given that transfers have the last seat to the table and are used to fill remaining spots, they likely want more precision than with freshman, where yield estimation is enough. That is my theory on why the process is set up so.

By that logic, the top applicants get housing options first, and the rest can get apartments in Boston relatively easily. After your second year, a good portion of the school lives off campus, so it’s not like living off campus will make a big difference in the end.

@PengsPhils so going by that logic, does that mean the later our decisions are sent out–the lower our chances of getting in? Since the first wave has priority, and assuming 90% of them accept: doesn’t that mean that there are less spots for the remaining waves?

@PixelTomato That I’m not sure on. They could try to keep them similar sizes and do yield estimation as well, adjusting by wave. No one can say. I would just try not to think about it - there’s nothing to be done at this point, and reading into things only gets hopes up or down, either of which could be bad depending on the result. I say best to forget about this thread and just get the decision when you get it. I feel the pain of the waiting game, believe me. It’s easier if you don’t get your hopes up every wave though. Expect that you hear back early June, and you can’t be disappointed in the timing part no matter what.

@PixelTomato The yield is not 90%, rather 45%.

Waiting for decisions ahhh

I hope there’s another wave today!

Thanks @PengsPhils, I suppose you’re right! Can’t think too much about it but I just can’t help it. Thanks for the explanation (:
@TomSrOfBoston I was just making an assumption, in a “what if” context. Thanks for the info anyways!
@transferfromwu @falt11 same here! I hope the wave comes out today and it has my decision >.<

Has anyone heard back?

I havent!

i heard people have heard back in the past around 4-5:30

so what happens if we get accepted… but have an off campus options situated? what is the likelihood as the summer goes on that housing would open up for transfers?

I just got accepted into Wake Forest University today, so let’s see if NEU can continue this streak!
