So basically, I am a Management Information Systems major at Penn State University Park as a freshmen. Recently, I've been accepted to Northeastern University, as a transfer student, with a scholarship that makes me pay around 20k a year. However, I pay 44k a year, here at penn state. In your opinions, I was wondering which college I should choose. Penn State is probably ranked higher in Business/Management Information Systems but NEU has the Boston location and co-op. Which would you guys choose? I need some serious help on deciding. Thanks in advance!

Can anyone please help…?

If money is an issue I’d go with Northeastern.

Money isn’t really an issue but it’s good to save money. However, which do you think is more respectable in terms of academics and prestige?

I think they are both pretty close but Penn State-Smeal is probably a little bit more prestigious than Northeastern’s B-School.

Both are well-respected…and you will also save 24k. Save your money…TRANSFER RIGHT NOW>…

Besides the money, what are some reasons why Northeastern’s B-school could be better than Penn State’s.

I think even if money isn’t a concern, I would go with PSU. Northeastern isn’t really worth the money. But then again I don’t think any school above $40k is worth it unless it’s an ivy. Penn State has a good reputation, and I’d assume you’d have no problem getting a job in Philly. Personally I’d say Rutgers is even better but that’s just me.

If we put money off the table, then the only way to decide will be the college atmosphere. Urban and rural. Both will probably land you a job in the north east. Academic quality is the same. You need to visit and decide or flip a coin if you don’t care about money.

Are there any specific advantages of Northeastern over Penn State? I’m so confused and indecisive right now. Not sure which one to choose. I made a group of friends here at Penn state already, but I like the fact that NEU is in Boston. Anyone??

The Co-op if you are interested in that and of course the location.

@studied4sat: You should keep in mind that Northeastern has a smaller student body. Its easier to compete for on-campus jobs because you’ll have fewer competitors overall. You should also consider whether Boston is a better fit for you than University Park. If I were in your position, I’d choose Northeastern for its co-op program, smaller student body, lower cost (which is really important), higher prestige (even in business), and location in Boston. IMO, 44k/year isn’t is worth it for Penn State, but 20k/year is justifiable for Northeastern U.

Guys, I made a mistake. Penn State is only 30k. There is only a 6k difference in the two schools.
@FateGoneAwry16,
How do you know that Northeastern is higher in prestige in general and in business than Penn State? I always thought Penn State was higher.

bummmppppppp. anyone?

If PSU is only 30k then stick with PSU. Transfer only if you want to do the co-op program at Northeastern.

I visited Northeastern this weekend, but it wasn’t as good as everyone always said. They always said that Boston was a great city, but it seemed just plain to me. Maybe it’s because I’m from New York? However, I hate the environment here at Penn State since it’s in the country side. What to do… sigh.

anyone???

" I hate the environment here at Penn State"

Transfer ? If you hate it there, you won’t be able to do well in academics.
