Northeastern University vs University of Washington

@merc81 wow why is Northeastern far down below UW

I am kinda confused with the rankings now because every sites seems to have different rankings.

@pikachu11111 no, don’t worry about it! Boston is not a racist city. At all.

@pikachu11111: In the USNWR rankings, consider the density of the distribution curve. The 41-place difference in rank between the schools is the result of only a 0.6 difference in peer assessment score (on a scale of 1 to 5).

Rankings conflicting should tell you it’s a wash.

I live in Boston: it’s not a racist city at all. I don’t know where anyone would get that. Maybe a few frat guys? NEU and Boston overall has an incredible international presence in the student population. It’s not the most diverse, but it’s very in line with the US population as a whole.

Here’s Boston demographics as a whole: http://www.bumc.bu.edu/inspir/files/HTML/Boston%20Population%20and%20Demographics.htm

Boston is as diverse, young city. Can’t ask for much better to go to school in.

It sounds like you prefer NEU, I say go with it. I think everyone would agree that those three points above are a big part of this decision, and rankings are not only not significant enough to change that but also completely conflict. Again, I can say this: NEU will carry much more name recognition in the northeast.

@Qwerty568 Okay, that is relieving! I know a few people who lives in Boston too and so far so good (y) Do you live in Boston?

@merc81 well, that make sense. thanks for the info

@PengsPhils yeah, the ranking wouldn’t be what I mostly look at anymore. That’s really good to know that they’re not a racist city at all. Thanks for the demographics! I saw an amazing diversity (y)

I am definitely going to NEU, especially after you carry out all the points that helped out my decision making. Thank you so much for that! I paid the enrollment deposit and housing deposit too already! I will work on the next steps from now on then.

Do you know about the honors program at all by any chance? Is it something that I have to apply for after I am in the school?

@pikachu11111 Yes, I live in Boston, and I love it. It’s a great place to be a college student. There’s a reason its always in the “pros” section when someone on here is contemplating BU, Northeastern, Tufts, and the like.

You would be offered Honors upon acceptance if you made it. You can apply for it after your first year if you were not offered honors but personally I don’t think it’s incredibly worth it. Honors has a lot of perks for freshman but there’s not too many after. In the end, the honors experience is not incredibly different: it’s more used as a marketing tool to attract freshman when they apply. But if you wish to apply after freshman year, you are allowed to.

This is a pitch for Udub–stated in no particular order or priority: an endowment 4 times the side of NE–there has been much capital improvement to the campus facilities in the last 5-10 years; fast becoming a world class research institution in some fields; organic synergy with cutting edge industries and technology–including Microsoft, Amazon, eBay, Boeing, etc, incredible bar and food scene (I know both cities well–seattle trumps it); vibrant and diverse young population; great campus and college atmosphere and where else can you kayak to a Pac12 football game on beautiful fall day–which hundreds of folks do every Saturday --plus sking/hiking and whatever else you want to do outdoors under 45 minutes
Udub.

@qwerty568 That’s good! I have decided to attend Northeastern University. I am excited to live in Boston

@pikachu11111 that’s great! Congrats, you’ll love Boston and NEU.

@PengsPhils okay thank you for those information! I am actually a transfer student, so I will be coming in probably as a junior or sophomore, depending on credits transfer evaluation. Well, in that case, I don’t think the honors program is that necessary.

@boolaHI I lived here for almost 2 years, so I am well aware of those things you mentioned. I like how its also the center of big business headquarters like amazon, microsoft, etc. The football team is awesome (the huskies, and also seahawks). I love it all.

However, I have finally made my decision to go to Northeastern since I paid the deposit for both enrollment and housing. By this point, Foster haven’t release their decision yet too. I hope I can learn new things in Boston, since I have explored what is around here in Seattle.

@Qwerty568 Thank You! I think so too!
