Can't make up my mind...
which one is better?
I like finance, but I am not sure if I want to go find a job right after I graduate from college. I haven't really made up my mind what to do after I graduate.. can't decide betweetn work/go to grad school/phd.
Give me some advice plzzzz.

In addition to post graduation, you should also think about your undergrad. They are two very different schools when it comes to the environment. One is in the city and the other on a quiet campus.

Northwestern without a doubt. Even if you decide to go into IBanking, all the banks recruit from NU.

Post your thread on the Search & Selection forum too as it gets more traffic and your question is not specifically about transferring.

I am currently a rising junior actually.

I am a econ and math major in my current school. If going to NYU Stern, I wouldn’t be able to finish my math major since there are a lot of business core courses to catch up with. I heard Stern has a really good career center… i dont know if it is true that Stern does have such a big reputation on the Wall Street. I def want to get into Ibanks someday, but not sure if right after undergrad is the perfect time.

NYU is the place to go if you want to go into finance, its in New York. Their career center is great at giving students of all standings chances at getting good internships early on.
The reason I would go to NU is for a real college experience and youre really not losing anything as far as recruiting goes.

What does your year have to do with anything? You’re trying to decide between these 2 schools based on major and other attributes, right? So your question doesn’t have anything to do with transferring per se, it has to do with which is going to better permit you to reach your ultimate goals. Therefore you would get much more input on the S&S forum, but whatever.

Tufts Jumbo and future Cornellian here, but my two cents:

I grew up around Northwestern, in fact I just got back from visiting a friend on campus there. What I can tell you about NU is that you can have the resources of Chicago (the Loop business district is ~20 minutes away by train while other great areas are closer still). You get the best of both worlds: a quiet, very “college” atmosphere on campus very, very close to a big city. I can’t speak about the recruitment, but I suspect a NU degree is at least as impressive as a Stern degree to employers (especially if you’re not sure finance/working right out of undergrad is for you). Best of luck with your decision and have fun next year!

thanks entomom, I’ve already posted my thread there.

If you’re going into IB in NYC, a Stern degree is likely to a more weight (top notch finance program) and get you farther due to alumni connections and finance reputation and strong academics (avg. Stern SAT score is ~1440, and the notorious “Stern Curve” where only 20% of students can get "A"s). That said, Stern students are hyper competitive, and there is no real campus environment, per se.

If you’re committed to go into business / Wall Street, and are okay with the lack of a real college campus, I’d pick Stern over NU. That said, NU will give you a more traditional college experience, and IMHO, a better way to meet lifelong friends. It really depends on your career goals and desired takeaway from college.

Full Disclosure: I graduated from Stern.
