hugz - I really like your resume. I think you have a shot at all the schools you listed. You are not only an excellent student, but your EC’s show great depth and seriousness for such a young person. UC Berkeley will depend a lot on which program you are applying to. The Model UN experience may be very interesting to UChicago since it is so important there. Good luck to you.

Edit: I had a 690 on my SAT math.

Just a reaction – the list is ok (meaning you have a safety school) and you have a shot at all or most of the schools all or most of the schools listed,

However, looking at the schools I know (and I’m a couple of years removed from the process, so I may be off), I’d say that most are in the reach/reach for everyone category. If you could find a couple more schools that are pure matches, I think you’d have a stronger list.

hunz -
What about Truman State University?
You provided a list of 13 schools with over half being very very selective, you are competing with many many impressive applicants, you might consider some additional match schools.
Many on your list do not meet full financial need, if you were accepted to Michigan, BC, Wisconsin, etc. could you afford to attend? If not why are they on your list?
If you need good financial aid to attend the school make sure your list is affordable and if a school is not take it off your list.
You might consider ND as a choice over Michigan, BC or Wisconsin as ND meets full financial need.
Try to bring up your test schools.
Good Luck

hunz -
I think Northwestern requires the ACT test with the writing portion, I also think Northwestern recommends 2 SAT subject test. Double check each schools requirements and recommendations.
Edit prior post to say test scores.
Many schools on your list are unpredictable for most applicants.
Good Luck

Thank you for your reply. Yeah. I am aware of the reach-match ratio. However, Missouri, Columbia and Wisconsin I consider guarantees and I do not mind having only two safeties. But yes, I should reconsider just for security’s sake.

@NicoleMichael‌

Thanks for helpful and useful advice. I have taken the ACT with writing, and am taking three more subject tests in October. I agree that I could be more financially responsible with my choices. However, I believe Notre Dame is more selective than Wisconsin, Michigan, and Boston College and that would not help with my reach to match ratio.

"…However, I believe Notre Dame is more selective than Wisconsin, Michigan, and Boston College and that would not help with my reach to match ratio…"

I thought you said you were a lower middle-class student who wanted to go to college? You can apply to dozens or hundreds of match schools across the country and if you can’t afford any of them then it was all just a waste of time. As you are from MO you might start looking there, Wisconsin and Michigan won’t be as generous to a student from MO.

Don’t focus on the activity focus on the results, you want to go to a good school you can afford.

You need to find a school that you are happy with AND that will accept you AND that you can afford, an acceptance to a school you can’t afford isn’t a viable option.

You might consider more safeties and matches. A safety is a school you will get into that you can comfortably afford, a match is a school that you should get into that you can afford.

You would be well served to look at and run the NPC at each of the schools you are considering to determine if they are affordable.

Why go to all the work and expense and stress of the schools application process to then get accepted and then not be able to attend because the school was unaffordable and didn’t meet your financial needs, and all that financial information was available to you up front?

What about Truman State University?

Good Luck

@NicoleMichael‌

I would apply to Truman, but I am really trying to leave Missouri. I am only applying to MU as I am an auto-admit there and there are full ride scholarships for people with scores like mine. I’d rather there than Truman. Washington University in St. Louis is a seperate story too as I was selected for the Danforth Scholarship by my school and am attempting to take advantage of that.

I will heed your advice, however. There must be a financially responsible choice outside of Missouri.

When I saw your SAT and ACT scores, I was concerned that you just wouldn’t be in NU’s sweet spot.
Then I read more.
The totality of your application makes you a wild card. Your test scores are unexceptional, but the whole picture is very intriguing.
Bottom line: no one can meaningfully “chance” you, but I think your app will be given close attention. If I were on the
AdComm, you are the kind of applicant I would accept. As the ads for the NYS lottery say, “You’ve got to be in it to win it,” so take your shot and best of luck. I really hope you get into all of them!

I also agree that you have a good shot at NU ED. Also, You might want to pick 1 Jesuit and 1 other Catholic schools as safeties. Maybe Fordham and DePaul (the latter if you really like Chicago)?

While Wisconsin is a match, I don’t see it as a guarantee.
