I have a friend who just got a deferral from Yale. I know this is almost worse than a rejection–hang in there! you might here some good news this spring.

I fu cking hate everyone else whose applying to NU at my school. There’s like three self-pretentious Indians who I’m pretty sure are blowing the department heads and a few other kids who are just ugly. lolleratyaboy

At least you guys still have a shot. I just got turned down. On the bright side, I got in what could possibly be the school I’m going to end up in - U of WA in Seattle. And I found out their medical school ranks #1 in primary care, so maybe this isn’t so bad. I think I’ll apply as a transfer student to Northwestern next year. I am still dead set on graduating with a Northwestern diploma.

oh noooooezzz CC you got it bad

people at my school go either all IVY or local schools. when i tell people I like northwestern people are always like “LOL CHICAGO WINTER LOL” and it was funny the first time but now it’s like

ok guys. it’s cold. i get it. whatever it’s not like cambridge is tropical either.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I am pretty sure it is grades because I have like a 3.7 with a very difficult schedule this year. Everything else seemed fine, so I am pretty sure that they want to see my first semester grades. What are you guys going to do to better your chances in the spring?

Same sitcheyachun. I even sent first-quarter grades (2 A’s, 2 A+'s, and 1 B), but I guess they just want to make sure I’ve maintained that or improved for the semester. I’m going to study over winbreak for some subject tests. And I guess I’ll start studying for finals.

@CC

Thanks so much for the information. And same here. Seniors are exempt from finals if they have few enough absences and good enough grades… but I think I’m going to take them. Boo.

Oh a lighter note, I got the lead in my last high school play! That was more to cheer myself up than to gloat to anyone. hahaha please excuse my boasting :)

@MimiSD

grats. But the frustration is actually starting to set in now. I have to pull a 180 in Statistics (first quarter: 95; second quarter: 79). Plus, I’m all for the subject tests, but that’s just another thing to study for. Should I just take Math II and U.S.?

Would we have time to take subject tests?

Yes. They told they’ll take the January date.

@CC

U.S. is ridiculously hard I hear, unless you’re a complete whiz. Math II sounds good and have you taken any others?

I actually took them both cold turkey in June (I couldn’t study because it was the Saturday after the last day of school, which was also finals week) and got a 650 and 690. I think I can raise those scores to the mid-700s with some studying.

Oh hey a deferral thread!!! I posted on the RD thread and I now I feel kind of out of place…but yeah. I’m deferred. Anyone know the stats from this year on that? My friend told me that the admissions office just wants to see your seventh semester grades and that’s about all you can do.

Also, I have a 32 ACT and 700 Lit/660 Math I SAT IIs - should I bother with taking these again? I want to but I have speech tournaments every saturday in January so I basically would have to arrange for special testing not on a saturday and I don’t know how much the CollegeBoard and ACT would appreciate that.

@MimiSD - I got the lead in my last high school musical too!
