I applied Early Decision to the class of 2021 at Northwestern and was unfortunately deferred. Approximately how many people does Northwestern defer and what are the chances of getting in during this spring consideration? Northwestern is my first-choice so what do I have to do now as a deferred applicant to increase my odds? Is there anything I should do or anyone I should call?
Dear ****
The admission committee has concluded its evaluation of Early Decision applicants to Northwestern University. I am writing to let you know that we are deferring a final decision on your application until the spring.
While I realize this news may be disappointing, it is important to note that your application will be reconsidered during our Regular Decision process. As a deferred applicant, you may have questions as to what steps you can take to enhance your application. Please ensure that your counselor sends a mid-year report with your mid-year grades as soon as they become available. If you have additional and new information you would like the admission committee to consider, please feel free to forward any submissions to the Office of Undergraduate Admission by the end of January.
The admission committee anticipates offering admission to a small number of deferred candidates. A final decision on your application will be communicated by early April. We look forward to receiving your mid-year report and wish you the best of luck in your senior year.
Sincerely,
Christopher Watson
Dean of Undergraduate Admission
