What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified?

If you have done any research or independent study outside of school, please include an abstract or summary of your work plan

After stepping on Northwesterns campus, I cant imagine myself anywhere else. Not only can I see myself fitting in at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, but also, I can see myself fitting into the student body. Even in July, the campus roared of Wildcat pride. An energetic student sat diligently guarding The Rock even though school was out. I yearn to attend a school with spirit that lives long after graduation day, such as Northwestern. In just a two-hour tour, my mind was set on sporting a purple shirt on the beach of Lake Michigan.
One of Northwesterns most enticing qualities lies in the research opportunities. Even as a freshman I plan on getting involved in lab work right away. With research opportunities early in undergraduate studies, I can experience different fields of work before having to decide a major. I am inspired at the intellectual vitality Northwesterns research institution has to offer for undergraduates.
The quarter system that Northwestern operates on far surpasses other colleges systems. At some schools double majors are nearly impossible to complete and minoring is even difficult, but at Northwestern, because of the quarter system, I can double major in biology and psychology or minor in cognitive sciences easily. Also, I would utilize the quarter system to study abroad. At Northwestern I very easily could study abroad without falling behind in my major and missing out on campus life for very long.
My tour guide over the summer happened to be a student at the Weinberg College and introduced me to my favorite aspect yet: advising. I originally worried I would become lost among the eight thousand undergraduates, but my tour guide assured me that advisors make sure you dont. I love the fact that the instructor of your freshmen seminar becomes your advisor. I think this makes the relationship more personable and interaction less stressful.
Along with academics, I love the extracurricular activities and clubs at Northwestern. I hope to, if admitted, partake in a variety of organizations. I am extremely excited at the thought of joining the NU Table Tennis club. Nothing relaxes my nerves like slapping around a ball with my Tenergy 65 paddle. I hope to join the Club Tennis team and continue my high school pastime in a competitive setting.
