I didn't see a thread for Northwestern so I thought considering Northwestern is the school I really want to go (I'd choose it over Harvard or Princeton any day, if I got in) I'd make one where everyone who's applying/applied can communicate and post their college stats.

I'll start

Primary Major: English
Secondary Major: Philosophy
College GPA (Wagner College): 3.6
Projected GPA Fall 2009 (Community College)- 3.8
College ECs: Sociology Club, Psychology Club, Philosophy Club, Sports Section Editor for my School's Newspaper, Phi Theta Kappa (Honors Program)
Work Experience: Yes
HS SAT scores: 1900/2400, CR-600, Math-580, Writing-720
In-Major GPA: 3.9

I am currently a Freshman at USC and am looking into transferring. Northwestern seems to be a good option in terms of what I want to get away from at USC and what I am looking for in general.

What are some other schools that people are considering that are looking at Northwestern? I am eager to find some more options to look into.

I am taking 18 units this semester and I have a part-time job on campus in an academic department’s administrative offices. I haven’t really become involved in too much else since it is my first semester at college. I wanted to sort of feel it out first. But I am definitely going to get involved right off the bat second semester.

My first semester GPA should be around a 3.8 or so.
I am a Communications major in the Annenberg School, which is highly regarded in the field (I am told).

My high school grades weren’t stellar, my unweighted GPA was a 3.6 but I was a full IB diploma recipient and was involved in a ton of stuff both inside and outside of school.
I had a part time job for 2 years during high school, was the president of the mentoring program at my school, interned for a US senate campaign, took a trip to Africa over one summer to learn about the HIV/AIDS pandemic with a student organization and implemented an organization at home to raise money for HIV/AIDS hospitals in Malawi (the country I went to) that lack the medical supplies necessary. I also did a leadership program at Duke University during another summer. I could say more but that gives a good idea of the breadth of activities that I was involved in. They were all also long-term commitments and I received scholarships to participate in both of the summer programs.

Also, I got a 32 on the ACT.

Thanks for any help/advice! Good luck to everyone

I’ll be applying as well. So since the app for Fall is due only in May, do they wait for our spring semester grades before looking at our applications?

Here are my stats:

HS:
gpa: 3.6
EC’s: X/c, newspaper, NHS
SAT’s: CR:770 Writing:750 Math: 630 (but I have a 710 on Math level 1 sat 2)

College: Boston University
Stats:
gpa: 3.55 ish by end of fall semester, projected to be around a 3.7 after spring semester
EC’s: running club, editor on international relations journal, work experience in a diabetes research lab

My reasons for transferring are mostly that I want a bit more of a campus feel/smaller community than BU has.

Hey runnergirl! good to see you’re applying. I think that’s a good reason, but I don’t really know how big Northwestern is.
I think you have a good chance, better than me at least. Your SAT scores are awesome and if you could bring your college GPA up to a 3.7, you could be in for sophomore transfer I would think.

But I also hear the transfer acceptance rate is going down for next fall at Northwestern.

Hm, NW is still a school I’m considering, but I’m thinking about the chances of me actually going if I got accepted, and for some reason I don’t think I would go. That’s the main thing holding me back as it seems to have a lot of what I’m looking for. Oh well, weather in Chicago isn’t as fun as in LA, lol!

ok looks like my GPA turned out a little better than expected for this semester- 3.9! And General Chemistry was my pitfall unfortunately- B+

I’m surprised more people here aren’t applying. Wonder what my chances are if I get a 4.0 next semester. Does it hurt to have around 60 credits? or can junior transfers make a stronger case for admission than sophomore transfers because they’ve completed more college coursework?

And how much does a grammatical error hurt on the essay? I had one where I referred to Northwestern as “The Northwestern” because I used the essay for other schools and forgot to remove the “The”. Will that seriously hurt my application and make it look sloppy?

Also does anyone know if it would help to take SAT Subject Tests at this point? Or would that only be helpful if you were a HS Junior/Senior?

I’m applying as well. I was waitlisted this May and am on the priority list but I dont know how much its gonna help. I’m slightly worried because I know my college gpa is not that high

My high school GPA was 3.98, SAT 2230, solid EC
im applying from georgetown, and my college gpa would be 3.3-5 but ill definitely try hard to get better grade next semester.

I’m applying as well. I was waitlisted last fall when i applied (late applicaiton…oops). not sure if that’ll help. I’m applying from Wash U. in St. Louis. High school GPA 3.92 and first semester GPA 4.0 (hopefully i can keep it up next semester…)
I’m still unsure whether I’m 100% transferring. but just think i should give it a shot, since i don’t really have anything to lose…

im considering applying.
my 1st semester gpa is 3.938 (i really hope it could be rounded up tho)
hs rank top 10% but my hs does not calculate gpa, around 90/100 not very competitive
i wanna know whether high school activities will count a lot as i did not do something that big only presidents of 2 school clubs.
what worried me about my chance to northwestern is my activites now in college. no leadership positions. only members of some major-related organizations, school sports team (no BIG matches so far), deans and honors student advisory board, and community college.
extremely wandering…

because I hated St. Louis. It’s absolutely the worst city i’ve ever been in.
There’s nothing wrong about Wash U. I actually loved it. I loved all my classes so far (which is why i’m still unsure whether or not i really want to transfer). let’s just say that I had some terrible experiences in STL.

I know northwestern asks for the ACT’s and SAT’s for transfer students but Ill have around 57 credits after spring. How many credits do you need so NU doesnt look at your ACT/SAT. I did terrbile on my SAT. I got a 1730. I know how bad that score is. It sucks and I rather take the exam again. I actually would take my ACT but I rather study for my MCAT because Im looking into their Fienberg school of Medicine. Please let me know if there is a way around it.
