21385: I'm currently enrolled in the program. It came out in a mass e-mail.

Also, I believe that first interview requests have already gone out. They don't all go out at once so hang tight.

jonthelin, do you know general numbers of how many applied this year? also, how many usually get an interview?

For the number of applicants, I have no clue. As for how many usually get an interview, I've seen numbers floating around the internet, but again, I don't have an exact number.

i called the HPME office today and the lady said that the interviews went out on a "rolling" basis up till mid-february. there are around 800+ applicants with 130ish interviews to go around... from those 130, they pick 20-30 to be in the program.

thanks stockguru92. Does anyone know if applying closer to the deadline hurts chances of getting an interview?

^^^^^^^

no.

Do you have to fly to Feinberg/Northwestern for the interview? If so is it like paid for by you or them?

Not implying I'm getting one or anything... but just wondering in case I need to set aside a few bucks. lol.

Did everyone get a mass email or something?

Zfanatic: Yes, you do have to fly to Feinberg for interviews. And no, Northwestern does not usually pay for air fares.

They don't pay because they know if you don't want to pay, somebody else will. Schools like WashU or Duke pay for your visit (after being admitted) or give you ipod to get you to come. HPME, on the other hand, has a very high yield; it doesn't need to use money to lure students.

Thanks.

I'm wondering, as far as medical EC's, how would these suffice?

I just finished a 14 week internship with an orthopaedic surgeon, doing everything from clinicals to surgeries to cadaver labs, and then this spring I'm going to be a research assistant in a neuroscience lab at UT Southwestern. I also attended a weeklong conference/summit for Native Americans that want to go into medicine, got to visit NIH, talk with lots of physicians, etc in D.C. It wasn't one of those waste of time, pay 5000 dollar ones, it was really educational and a lot of work. Lol.

I've got other EC's but as far as medical ones go, do you think that's enough to have shown a significant interest in medicine?

Will NU send confirmation emails when they received/processd all of our HPME application materials?

no they don't give you an update when they receive your materials (i didn't at least)
got interview information today

zfanatic, those are great.

when i was in high school, i didnt even know where to get opportunities like those. you will have no problems on the EC side of your app for sure.

uh this probably has already been asked
but does not having a regular alumni interview affect chances of HPME ?

because i think the spots in my town have already been filled up...

eagleeye, did you get an HPME interview? or just a northwestern alum interview card?

HPME interview not doing alumni

^^^ gj dont mess that ***** up.

xingster, i dont think it matters for HPME at all. i dont know how it affects regular NW admissions, though. probably doesnt matter either since its optional.

great job eagleeye! I hope to get one as well...gulp.

for real... i want one as well... i applied in the second week of DEC... eagle eye what were your stats and when did you apply... anyone else get an interview, what were your stats and when did you apply?
