I applied to Northwestern ED and was wondering about the social scene? How often are there events? Are there parties during the week? I know I want to join a sorority; what’s that experience like?
Sorry I know these seem like artificial/unimportant questions, but I love the school academically and just want to understand the other aspects!
Social scene will be mostly apartment / frat parties and a couple Evanston bars. Very few to no weekday parties.
Current freshman here. It’s a good time with a lot of frat parties every friday and saturday night. Many other groups will hold open/private parties as well.
Northwestern has a lot to offer in addition to parties. In terms of events, which you mentioned, there are a few big music festivals/events like A&O Blowout in the fall and Dillo Day in the spring (look them up), and there’s this giant thing where students dance for 30 hours straight to fundraise for charity called Dance Marathon. There are a lot of smaller events too, and student theater and music performances most weekends. You’re additionally decently close to Chicago, where there’s always a lot going on.
You can also meet people at events that aren’t explicitly social, like speaker events (where a thought leader comes in to speak), and in classes, and then arrange a hangout with them. That’s how I’ve met a lot of my friends.
If you opt for living at a Res College, that is also a good way to meet and bond with people. Most of my kids closest friends are from their res college.
