Hey barrons,

From the links you gave us, UMich & UVA's BBA's base salary is more like $47-48K+bonus, not $55K+bonus. You probably overestimated a little. But it sure is sigifnicantly higher than what an average LA grad would get. :)

Hey barrons,

From the links you gave us, UMich & UVA's BBA's base salary is more like $47-48K+bonus, not $55K+bonus. You probably overestimated a little. But it sure is sigifnicantly higher than what an average LA grad would get. :)

I was focusing on Finance majors. Also don't forget the signing bonuses too--another 5-10 grand. Also that's for 2004. 2005 is up nicely--about 5 to 10%.

Now for the real question--I have found the killer data--same school--Penn with Ivy liberal arts and great business school.

The average 2004 liberal arts salary was under $38,000.

The average for Wharton undergrads overall was over $52,000.

But barrons those aren't apples to apples data. People from the College and Wharton will get paid the same for the same job. The Penn number subsidizes public sector, teachers, etc.

Point of clarification--it was stated upthread that Ross would begin accepting Freshmen, implying that they would forgo the general education portion of their studies and immediately enroll in the business program.

That is not the case. Students will still do their first year outside of the school.

Of course they would get the same pay--if they could get hired. That's a silly point. Sure a psychology major might be paid the same if Microsoft hired him to be a software engineer--but, except in maybe a rare case, they ain't gonna get hired.
Our local NPR station had a long show about college. A woman who had recently graduated Dartmouth with a major in social sciences said that she had a difficult time finding a job after getting rejected from the Wall Street firms. She was $70,000 in debt and wishing she had taken the Rutgers scholarship she had been given.

If all one is interested in is making a good salary with a BA, find a school that trains one how to do Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) work with Autistic children. The starting salaries in this area for a certified ABA teacher are in excess of $55,000.
