Northwestern Thread for Transfer Students

I know a couple of U of I students applied this year, have your spring semester grades reached Northwestern yet? Mine is still being processed according to their site...but it's been awhile since I ordered it.

Wow, NU transfer admission is "rolling"? Does that mean that I put myself at a disadvantage by submitting my application on like the last day? If so, I will shoot myself because I had it completed weeks before that date.

I'm pretty sure Northwestern said they accepted applications until May 1st but it didn't make a difference when you applied. Emory and WashU are the only schools I know of that were rolling, meaning some people received decisions very early.

My final grades do not come in until June, because my current term ends on May 27. Do you think it's too late to send them an unofficial progress report? I had one made at the request of the U Chicago admissions office, maybe I should fax it to NU too.

if your grades are good, yes.

person on the phone said send it,

person who emailed me said they only look at official transcripts

I just went ahead and sent it, with a note saying I'd send official as soon as it's available.

well i understand why i have not heard anything back as of yet. apparently my application still hasn't been reviewed due to the admissions office still missing credentials (dean's reference and test scores). i'm going to be giving them a call tomorrow to rectify this situation. anybody else get an email today as well? i love how they emailed me seven days in advance of the deadline too :P . oh northwestern, how i love you so. why is it always the people or things we love the most cause us the most stress?

i got the email today too. it says that i'm missing my teacher rec...even though she sent it in feb. ohh and the deans form i sent in in march maybe and they only processed it a week or two ago, so i guess it takes time. ahh i hope i can fix it. and my transcript is missing too. ohh northwestern i hope you accept me.

Yay I just got in today. Now I have to decide between UCLA and Northwestern. Any thoughts? Where would you guys go? The schools are so complete opposites.

If money was not an issue, I would choose Northwestern. It's smaller than UCLA, nearby Chicago (nicer city than LA, IMHO), more prestigious nationally (higher ranked, anyways), and depending on your major, it has programs which are stronger.

my major would be econ...and you do make a very compelling argument Run4Fun...I'm going to go visit Evanston sometime next week, that should help. Thanks for the comment though.

I'm actually a biz-econ major at UCLA and am trying to transfer to Northwestern. I'm obviously biased against UCLA, I feel that the educational quality is poor, teachers dont care about students, the TA system is horrible, and professors are researchers, not teachers... I've got my fingers crossed for NW.

Hello All!
This has been great to read about the acceptances so far (congrats!!).....Im hoping I get one too. But I'm from LA and I would pick NW over UCLA. UCLA is good for grad school if you plan on living in LA, but there is a HUGE NW population in LA too, so you have a good chance for networking.

I think NU edges out UCLA by a significant portion. There really isn't a comparison.

Yeah I will be transferring from UC Santa Barbara and the networking thing is something I was worried about actually. I plan on moving back to cali after NU if I decide to go there. I also think the undergrad experience at Northwestern would be better than at UCLA. Since I go to a UC school now, I know how impersonal they are, and UCLA being much bigger than Santa Barbara could only be worse.

bump.......

bump...

looks like i'm going to have my dean's secretary fax a copy of the dean's reference form on monday. i'll also send my final transcripts for this semester, and a copy of my sat scores they can reference until the college board gets off their lazy asses and sends the official ones. man, the college board is a load of crap.

Hey people, we should facebook...because that's what cool people do right??? haha
Feel free to add me :)

Are any of you getting help financially? I had heard that Northwestern doesn't give any grants/scholarships to transfer students, so I'm guessing you're all quite wealthy.

I haven't received my financial aid package, but I have also heard that. A scholarship foundation has been supporting me a little at my current school, but I don't know what I'm going to do about the tuition at NU. Well, actually I do, I'm gonna be in debt like whoooaaa!
