Northwestern Thread for Transfer Students

Incoming sophomore

Hey guys.. wondering if theirs anyone on here that successfully transfered to Northwestern as an incoming sophomore and could give me some insight/advice? I just finished my first semester of freshman year at Marquette! Thanks...

Hey guys I was wondering if you can possibly give me my chances of getting into Northwester.

McHenry County College GPA as of now: 3.1 but planning on getting straight A's this semester.

EC: Big Brother & Big Sister program, Work full-time since I was 15 years old, Community service for work and for my local mosque.

PS- I have had to help support my family that is why my high school and local CC grades are on the lower side.

I will be transferring for upcoming fall semester!

hi im hoping someone can give me an idea where i stand. im currently a freshman at vanderbilt. first semester i had a 3.1 gpa but this semester i think ill probably do better because my course load is a bit easier. im an undecided major but i will have taken science courses, math, chinese and econ. i got wait listed from northwestern as a freshman. i got a 2310 on the sats although that includes an 800 on the writing section which im not sure northwestern counts. also, ive heard that i dont need to completely reapply as a freshman because northwestern keeps hold of some of my documents from last year. does anyone know if i need recs from college professors and a new essay? thanks

Hello. I'm currently a freshman at Syracuse. I'm undecided but I have taken a wide range of courses such as writing, sociology, astronomy, earth science, econ, and more. I got a 3.549 GPA; as for my sats, I didn't do outstanding, getting a 1290 (not including the writing). I already know it will be tough cause I want to get into Medill. I'm hoping to major in Journalism and Environmental Science if possible. So I'm wondering what my chances would be of getting in.

I'm looking to transfer to Northwestern. I applied as a high school senior and got accepted however went to UVA instead because of financial issues. I'm still trying to transfer, however I got an F in a course last semester. With the F my gpa is a 3.0. If I can get a 4.0 this quarter will I stand I chance for a transfer or is any shot of getting in gone?

Im going to apply for Fall 2009, but I have a problem due to their late notification date. I read that Northwestern notifies sometime during June and July. Well, I already got accepted into UIUC engineering, which is a very competitive program, and I need to make a deposit by May1 if I am to go. Am I allowed to make a deposit anyways, and still apply to Northwestern?

I’m currently a soph at a California community college and I want to apply to northwestern for econ. If I were to start a third year at my community college would I me eligible for transfer to northwestern? I would not have taken any upper division classes. Thank you

Yes you are fine, as long as you have no upper division courses you will still be considered a junior. You will just have to make a note of that on your application.

Thanks supa. It’s just I found out I can’t apply to the ivie schools if I’m there more than two years. On northwestern transfer page Faq it says it is discouraged to apply if you have more than two years or is that only if your coming from a four year institution? Thanks for the help, I’ve only recently thought of applying outside of California.

This is to no one in particular…

I just submitted my app and supplement last weekend and I know that they are letting people know via the internet now, am I supposed to get something in the mail regarding like a login and password type deal? How does that work? I noticed last year people went to a website to check if all their materials were in and I haven’t gotten anything like that…

@Captain

You can still apply to the Ivies that accept transfers. The schools do not accept senior (students with 3 years of work completed) transfers because the schools have a minimum residency requirement of two years. However, because you come from a Community College, you have not taken any upper division courses. Therefore you would no choice but to stay for at least two years, and thus be considered a sophomore or junior transfer. Simply make a note on your application that because you are a community college student, you have not taken any upper division courses. They will understand.

Hey I’m applying to Northwestern for fall 2009 and was wondering when I can expect to hear an admission decision…it will be before June, right?

i applied too, but supposedly last year most poeple didn’t find out till mid june and some as late as july

has anybody heard anything from northwestern? i don’t mean decisions necessarily, just some sort of confirmation from them? i have not heard anything and i submitted my application almost 2 months ago (though i realize that the deadline just past a few days ago).

lots o something, write transfer@northwestern.edu and ask about the status of everything. They write back FAST! Usually next day or same day. Thats the way I found out everything was in. I also applied a long time ago, some time in January.
On the website it says they start notifying on rolling admissions basis after the deadline starting mid may to late june. sucks because I want to tell some schools yes or no that have a june 1st deadline!

thanks for the tip.

from what I’ve heard, if you have an enrollment deadline at another school, you can ask a school to expedite their decision process so that you can make an informed decision. i’m not sure if this applies to northwestern though.

Hi everyone…
I applied for Fall as well…how is everyone holding up…?
