Northwestern Thread for Transfer Students

Accepted!!! I'm pretty suprised as my HS record is pretty horrible...here are some quick stats for those who are interested:

HS:
9th grade: 2.06
10: 2.56
11: 3.14
12: 90 something
Till 10th grade we were doing the IGCSE program and I started IB in 11th. I also had a lot of mandatory Turkish classes so my courseload was a lot tougher than most students I've met.

CUNY Baruch College:
1st sem: 3.5
2nd sem: 3.8 I think

Congrats jacknjill!! Perhaps I shall see you at NU. :D

has anyone gotten anything back from housing yet? i've sent in my deposit but have heard no word from them.

They did send me freshman housing info, but that was a mistake. I guess it's because I had my deposit in before the freshman housing deadline was passed. They told me to expect transfer housing info in late June or early July.

yeah, i want my housing packet! what are you guys thinking about choosing? are most of you going to live in the transfer house, or are u considering other dorms?

do y'all know if we need to take the language placement exams?

is anyone here turning down UChicago to come here

no offense or anything, it seems that all of u guys got waitlisted or rejected by chicago

it makes me wonder

the transfer house seems fun...i'm still not sure tho.

NU is definitely more transfer friendly than Chicago. My numbers (from USNews) might be a little old, but Chicago accepted 40% of freshman while NU accepted 30% of freshman apps. For transfers, on the other hand, Chicago only accepted 27% while NU accepted 34%. Again, those #'s are a few years old, but I don't have anything more recent handy. But the main thing to notice is that NU accepted a higher percentage of transfers than they did freshman! That's a pretty high commitment to transfer friendliness.

Chicago does not seem to like transfers. But that's probably just because their academics are not very compatible with many other schools. Anyway, I'm guessing you can only really appreciate the core experience over the full 4 years. But if they would have accepted me on the condition that I have to start at the freshman level, I probably would have gone. ;)

But if they would have accepted me on the condition that I have to start at the freshman level, I probably would have gone.

lol i think many people would do the same...i wonder how one can get that across in the application without saying "i'll even start all over to go here."

I think I'll be going to NU and choosing the transfer housing, just because it seems the best way to get in with a group who share a somewhat similar experience.. but I don't know all that much about it. Does anyone know anything else? Also, what else is there to do to prepare to transfer? I feel like there's so much and yet except for starting school, I can't think of the specifics!

In case anyone hasn't found it yet, and since I still haven't gotten the actual forms, here's the link to the transfer housing site. http://www.northwestern.edu/housing/transfer_index.html. They say we can't actually apply till the 10th but we can at least pick our choices. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I think I am going to do the Transfer House...only because I am in dire need of a single room (I am extremely difficult to live w/...I admit it..but I also had a traumatic, horrible roommate experience last year hahaha) and the transfer house has both singles and doubles, so my chances of getting one should be upped.

truegibberish, I also feel really behind. while part of me is under the impression that i know everything about northwestern, another part of me is freaking out about being unprepared. i haven't even gotten my financial aid yet! they told me it was going to arrive by the weekend...and it's sunday. grrr

yeah i'm trying to decide between transfer house and ccs for 1st...slivka is going to be 3rd....dontcareforthis, i had the worst roommate in the universe last yr as well...i'm thinking that its impossible for me to be so jinxed as to be stuck w/ another like her

how are u guys able to choose? i haven't received any forms in the mail yet about housing choices.

you just go to the housing website and theres a link for transfers...ive just been looking at the options in the housing brochure w/ descriptions and such so i'll have mine ready. the actual application will be online july 10

aha. ok cool thx.

don'tcareforthis, I've thankfully just finished financial aid, but I'm still trying to invent things to take care of even though I only just mailed my things off to them. I've been on Caesar lately trying to figure out classes for next year, which is exciting but also pretty much impossible given all the things I just don't know. Like does anyone know if APs count for anything in terms of credit and/or distribution requirements (esp. for WCAS)? And are there any chances of getting these classes if we wait till New Student week?

Admittedly, I really think someone should sever my internet connection.

can u register for classes yet??? if so, how so, where on ceaser, all i see, is that you can check out classes, nothing to registrar????
