Northwestern Vs. Georgetown

Hey, I'm having a really really hard time deciding between the two. I'm and undecided student that could really go either way into sciences or liberal arts. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I just posted this on the Northwestern board too, so I figured I'd come over here and get both sides.

What specifically in the sciences or liberal arts would you be doing?

Based on a completely blind choice between the two, I believe that Georgetown would open more opportunities to you on average and is considered the better school in most circles. While this is a woefully inadequate way to choose which college to go to, and these may be superficial reasons, you aren’t giving us much to work with either.

As far as surrounding area goes, the Georgetown area is really awesome. I really don’t know about Evanston.

Another thing that may or may not be important to you- the weather. Yeah, DC gets cold, but Chicago is seriously nasty in the winter. Again, that might not bother you, but climate is a big factor for some people.

I would really suggest going to one of the GAAP open houses at Georgetown and anything similar at Northwestern. My interviewer for Georgetown told me he was dead-set on going to Cornell. He said he then went to open houses for both schools and knew within minutes that Georgetown was a better fit for him.

i’m having the same problem! + gw. if i go to nu, i’m a journalism major. if i go to gtown, i’m in the college. i want to be a journalist (maybe), but i don’t know if i want to go to journalism school or just work on the paper because i want a more liberal arts education.

i’m leaning georgetown, but i feel stupid to turn down medill… now i’m realizing this post is completely useless to you. but you’re not alone!!

I think at this point its better to be in the COL if you’re undecided, if you go to the Journalism School you are kinda pigeon hole yourself into well journalism… I guess you can always transfer… but Gtown COL is very strong (not sure about NU liberal arts)

being an unaffiliated student with either school, I would recommend the following:

If you want harder academics and more teaching renown and better facilities: go to Northwestern.

If you want a better social life, good academics, and more “fun”: go to Georgetown :)

it matters which is more important to you.

One more thing-
I just read your thread on the Northwestern board.

I’m pretty sure religion does not “permeate” the air at Georgetown like rotten limburger cheese. From what I’ve heard, the religion is far from being “unavoidable.”

Yeah, actually Georgetown is one of the least overtly religious Jesuit schools in the country, less so than BC or Fordham and a LOT less than Notre Dame.

I’m most likely going to do a double major, but I’m considering Economics, Physics, and Political Science as my possible majors. I’m definitely going to go to one of the GAAP weekends, and I’ll try to get down to Northwestern for a visit. Hopefully that’ll make it easier. Thanks for all the help guys. Btw, sorry for not giving much to work with.

To be perfectly honest, my knowledge of Northwestern is extremely limited, but, if you are even remotely considering Government as a major, Georgetown has to be at or near the very top of your list for obvious reasons.

Georgetown. Diverse student body from over 1000 high schools in all 50 states and international. Big Capital City! Solid academics.
