I was recently accepted into both Notre Dame and Northwestern and even though I initially thought this decision would be easy, I’m clueless as to where I’d like to enroll. I didn’t have a chance to visit and now with the pandemic going on not be able before May 1st.
I was admitted into computer sience program and I will like to do a second major in physics. As it comes for financial the cost is the same.Thank you
Both are excellent schools but I would choose Northwestern because of its location near Chicago. The location could really help with internships and connections.
Both great options.
Very, very different vibes.
ND is very rural.
NU is suburban/urban (you can see downtown Chicago very clearly from campus). Super vibrant college town and beaches on campus.
ND is Catholic with a number of required courses in theology and philosophy. You really don’t get into your major until second year.
NU is on a quarter system which makes double majoring much more doable.
NU has an amazing cultural arts scene. ND has amazing football and school spirit around sports.
I’d suggest looking up the four year plan of study for your major at both schools, reading the school newspapers on line, and watching student youtube videos. See what appeals to you more.
You can’t make a wrong choice here.
Well, in order to get sound advice, we need to know how much you’re being offered and how much debt you’re planning to take. I would say both are bad options.
I can tell you this much as a programmer myself. You’re wasting your money going to a 50k a year private school to study computer science. CS is ridiculously employable. The vast majority of employers recruit locally or regionally, which means you’re far better off going to school in your home state, at a fraction of the cost you’re paying for these schools.
“My parents can afford it.” If I had a dime for every time I heard that, I could retire on a tropical island. The economy is in a state of recession for the foreseeable future. If mom or dad gets laid off, it’s going to make those schools unaffordable VERY quickly. Believe me, I’m seeing posts on THIS forum where it’s already happening!
